More wood effects

My friends, I'm just dropping you a quick update on the barn door. THIS IS THE MOST FUN PART OF THE ENTIRE PROJECT!

I still have those 3 plywood pieces on the right side to finish, but I don't want to rush them and I'm already tired today. Oh, and yes, that shredded, pink-colored piece of plywood is in the reference images! :) In fact, a lot of the effects are directly interpreted from the references. I'm just adding more color variation to the individual pieces because it's just so damn fun to play around with different effects on each piece.

The techniques are always the same: dry brushing, thick brush application, chipping fluid, black and rust-colored washes, and subtle outlining/chipping. But the fun part is that you can switch the order of these techniques, omit some of them, or rely more on one over the other. It all depends on the effect you're aiming for.

I'm gonna relax a little now and will do my best to get back to you tomorrow!

Hi!

Night Shift

Thanks!

Night Shift

That's interesting! Wood can really age into every possible shade. I even saw rust with a strong purple tint.

Night Shift

There are already two books by master Emmanuel Nouaillier on these techniques! I'm just an apprentice :)

Night Shift

And it seems it'll be a long one!

All these boarded up elements add so much to wooden structures! Although at times it might be quite over the top, it just looks cool!

I think it's the cross grain that really brings this to life...where the up and down grain meets the horizontal grain. Excellent work and contrast

Hey Martin. My backyard fence has aged in a way that it has a bit of purple in the wood colour. That might be another way of adding colour in the future.

Looks so great!
