I think that settles it!

My friends, I'm so glad to report that the Sicaran tank is finished. The last few days were all 10+ hour sessions at the workbench because damn, even if the weathering is somewhat simplified, it's so much work when the model is big.

I gotta say that I kinda deviated from my original plan with the weathering, but I'm not complaining. One would call it a project that takes you on a journey, someone else might call it a failure of your original vision :D I guess each one of us can put it under our own definition.

My main intention was to accumulate all the dirt in those exposed areas at the front where the tracks would carry all the dirt. The rest is rather clean because the running gear is completely hidden, and over the past several projects I've been creating this dirt gradient from the bottom towards the top, so that's the case here as well.

I was surprised by how much of a difference the final polishing with a pencil makes on this one!

The only thing that is a bit of a letdown is the tracks. Their shape, thickness, and just overall design is kinda clunky and although I've been weathering tracked vehicles for most of my life, here I felt a bit confused and lost. But eh, I guess they're okay!

Now I'll plop my broken body on a couch and read a book. I'll get back to you as soon as I recover! :D

P.S.: on a completely different note, I've been reading a ton of books this year and would love to hear some suggestions from you! I like sci-fi and horror, authors like Andy Weir, Adam Nevill, Darcy Coates, Max Brooks, Cixin Liu, etc.

I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! I think that settles it! This is super creative and the rubble effect I found most interesting! (New subscriber here! Thanks for your great content and being a fine fellow!)

Absolutely brilliant. I love the use of inks on the yellow.

I guess it's similar with horror! Lovecraft can be very campy at times but some of his stories are still a good read almost 100 years later.

Night Shift

I listen to audiobooks (The Swarm by Frank Schatzing and the 3 Body Problem trilogy are my favorites because they're awesome and very long), podcasts, etc. at the workbench :) But I like to read a lot during the evenings instead of watching TV. I bought a Kindle and it's amazing. BTW, Expanse seems to be a great show on Prime, didn't know it was based on a book series. The Terror was also a TV show, right? That one was pretty decent, but I think the book makes the story even more gripping.

Night Shift

There are a few WH tanks that have the rhomboid design... very tempting!

Night Shift

That sounds great!

Night Shift

Looks great! So much smaller than it looks in my mind. Those tracks would make for a rough ride.

Russ

Highly recommend Ancillary Justice (and the sequels) by Ann Leckie.

Joel Munson

That is so cool I love the color choices

Enigma Models

That's incredible work! No failure in that at all. As far as Sci Fi goes, I'll give another vote for James S A Corey, The Expanse series has been quite good so far. "Asleep in a Sea of Stars" by Christopher Paolinin is another good one I listened to fairly recently. I'll have to go take a peak at my book shelf for more. Don't discount the old stuff, Heinlein, Bradbury, Andre, Asimov, Hubbard, it's all kind of campy, but it's good and entertaining.

Joshua Orr

Outstanding! I think you might be on to something bringing A heightened level of realism to the genre. More!

Jason Shiskowsky

We have similar tastes in authors. Excellent suggestions!

Rick

This is super rad! Love the realistic approach

Patrick

That's great! A lot of dirt!

It’s crazy how you still seem to be improving your skills even as a modeler at your level. I would recommend the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey. Probably the best sci-fi I’ve ever read. I watched the Amazon series first, which led me to the books. Both the books and the show are excellent and you lose nothing if you see the TV show first. Its an amazing series. For horror? Dan Simmons “The Terror” It’s a big one. Kind of like historical fiction about survival on the ice with a monster thrown in for fun. A book I wish I could read again for the first time. Do you listen to audio books when you are at the work bench like I do?

Paul Wright

I'm a SF reader as well, but I lean towards the classic SF, maybe not current enough for you (Heinlein, Clarke, Niven, Pohl...)

Mike A.

That’s a huge success Martin! The final touches with the graphite pencil make it so so heavy! Fabulous work all round. The earth effects remind me of your WW1 tank… and looks completely right! 👍🏆🏆

Kevin SKB118

What a beast. You nailed it, Martin! And you’re so right — finishing with the pencil somehow makes this bulky monster even more heavy. Take your well deserved rest!

Rick

I'm not a science fiction fan, but that's a hell of paint and weathering job. Keep it up my friend, greetings from Curacao Caribbean Area

You are not allowed to use the "F" word sir. There is not one person here that would not love to model the way you do. Also, this is a big bulky tank so the tracks have to be the same. I Think anything lighter would be out of place. These are perfect. I wish Deadpool had a ship or fighter, then I would have a suggestion. :)

Bob Yack

The word "failure" should not be allowed in any way, shape, or form. It's magnificent! Might be your "heaviest" creation yet. 😍

Mike A.

Very very cool and you workmanship is in another level as is your patience ❤️👌🏻

John Ratcliff

You might want to read up on Altered Carbon or Hyperion.

Stephan Krul

Warhammer on a next level 🤩

Andras Vegh

It had been interesting to see you use your weathering skills on an WWII airplane 😎😉

Roy Pedersen

Whoooow!!! Cooll!!!!
