Finish line!

My friends, it's finally over. This project has taken much longer than I expected and wanted, partly due to the Spain trip, and partly due to other duties that had to be done, and also a bit of Springtime lethargy.

There's not much to explain about the mud effects on the suit, just that the same tones were used as on the ground, and I employed some VMS coarse pigment texture mixed with the enamels - I haven't done this in a while and it reminded me how cool and fun it is! I think this sufficiently blended the suit with the groundwork. There's something about German WW1 camouflages - as if they were trying to make their armor stand out as much as possible :D But compared to my A7V, this model looks right at home.

I was hesitant to add the water at the bottom of the trench. But I haven't done this effect in a while, so I gave it a shot - a simplified shot. First I airbrushed the ground with a thick coat of Tamiya clear varnish. This made it slightly darker and gave the ground a nice, wet look. It also insulated the porous surface, creating a great bed for puddles. Yup, those are made from AK Puddles, basically a tinted Still Water. I brushed it onto the ground in several layers, slowly building its depth. You can see in some photos that the puddles have a light greyish color towards the middle - that's the final layer drying into that murky, greenish color.

I think this final effect elevated the whole scene to a higher level, and it was an awesome, fresh experience!

Now I can finally start on that Lend-Lease Valentine project, but first I need to put together a VERY extensive video about this. It'll be ready as early release next Friday as the editing will take me a few days, and there's also the Easter weekend coming up. So, to sum this up: Happy Easter holidays!
