Ready for painting!

My friends, the base is ready to be painted as a one, single unit - this means everything is glued in place. Well, except the chimney, the debris is built up around it.

My original plan was to use cable spools from Plusmodel (you can see one sadly skulking in the background) but they were too large for the scene. So I went looking through my stash to find something else that could be useful, and luckily, the 1/48 Jerry Can Set from Tamiya saved the day!

I also finally found use for some unknown plaster bricks I had for years. These are in 1/35 scale, so I had to chop them down to a more appropriate size.

The KV-2 looks totally out of place in the scene right now, doesn't it? :D But paints and snow will change that soon.

Also, there was a question in the previous post about the chimney. I didn't cut it using the Proxxon hot wire, but on the large, clunky one I bought on eBay before the Proxxon. My plan was to replace it with the more precise cutter, but it still has its uses to this day! It's much bigger, so it often saves me when I'm cutting large bases or buildings, and it also has an adapter for cutting circles. I used that while making a base for the VW Beetle and now it allowed me to make the chimney. Just stick a block of foam onto the adapter, set the wire at a slight angle to make a conical shape, and off you go!
