New project!

My friends, after finishing the large diorama I knew two things, and as it seems, some of you were reading my mind! The next project should be something laid back, small - preferably Tamiya in 1/48th scale, and something from WW2 again.

The best candidate was this KV-2 I bought two years ago. Initially I wanted to build it as a range target found in Germany at the end of the war, but because I just did a similar subject, I wanted something different.

Alright, a winter camouflage is not something totally different at all, but this specific tank is very unique. It's probably the last surviving KV-2 in WW2 as the picture originates from a short film shot in Leningrad 1943.

This tank is unique in several ways. It's probably the only KV-2 in Soviet hands wearing a winter camouflage, the only Soviet KV-2 with large inscriptions on the turret, the only known KV-2 with missing mudguards, and the only known KV-2 with additional armor plates! And this being probably the last of its kind still in action, it's a pretty unique subject indeed!

So far I did the basic construction and prepared the model for texturing. The tracks and wheels are glued together as a single assembly, just as I did on the Tamiya T-55 in the same scale. Handling so many wheels alone just isn't fun!

The only modifications so far are the fenders - their removal wasn't too hard, rescribed weld lines, and the sanded+primed gun barrel. Now I can stipple the thick armor plates with putty, add flame cut marks, and add new welds.

I also have 3 sets of PE from Hauler - fenders, grills, and storage boxes. I won't use much of them, though, so maybe I'll use the stowage bins on some other model sometime in the far future! :D
