My friends, just so you all know what to look (or not) forward to π€£ This is the specific A7V that I'm building, hull Nr. 540 "Heiland".
I tried to reconstruct the camouflage as closely as possible, and where it wasn't possible, I tried to make it somewhat aesthetically pleasing, because in reality the paint job must've been a huge mess!
And yes, it will be part of a trench diorama based on the third picture. The irony is that this photo is a montage of the tank from picture 1 and a photo of an abandoned trench, so it's all fake, the 540 broke down and was abandoned by the crew. But it provides a very nice and unique WW1 setting and that was the main deciding factor to start this project.
My plan is this: paint the interior, make a video about it, "close" the tank, aka glue the hull together, then build a diorama for it because it needs to fit perfectly into the trench and I don't want to mess up the paint job with earth pastes and whatnot, and then paint the model.
My initial idea was to brush-paint the camouflage, but I think the camo patches are large enough to be masked and airbrushed. I'll try some post-shading as well, most likely after removing the masking putty. Some highlights towards the top, some variation in the different panels, some shadow gradients and, of course, outlining the rivets with Ammo Shaders.
I also have stencils for the markings - I drew the decals a long time ago and sent it to someone who cut them for me, but I'll see if they'll be useful. Maybe I'll have to combine the stencils, airbrushing, and brush painting to get the look seen in photos.
So yeah, that's the plan!
