On a Mission from God...

...or possibly Glod.

Anyway, I've been moderately surprised by how many people showed a real interest in the Millennium supplement, which got me thinking about custom missions to add to the book, which led to me having a bit of a splurge on new missions. My studio is better set up for playtesting than it's ever been (unless you're my opponent, in which case you'll be confused as hell, because it's everything, everywhere, all at once) so I'm making some really good progress on the final stage of Operation Kurgan's text (which is finetuning the missions and writing up the mission climax) and creating some brand new missions.

So, with the combined interest in people actually buying products from the Patreon (I genuinely wasn't sure if that was a thing people would do) but feeling like I need to make something actually worth at least £3 to be worth selling, I thought I'd start pulling together a collection of missions: all the missions I've published that aren't already part of a book, plus all of the extra missions I wrote but never published because they didn't fit into the narrative I was telling.

A lot of them are very un-tested, so I'm not going to just release them into the wild. But they seem like a good product to put on the Patreon once they're done. Not too time-consuming to pull together into a decent format, either.

Just as a taster, today I've been playtesting a mission I call "The Chase", based on the final scene of Netflix movie, Extraction, with Chris Hemsworth. The mission has the heroes trying to make it from one diagonal corner of the table to another, down a narrow strip representing a bridge between hostile and friendly territory. Meanwhile, enemy snipers are trying to pick them off and terrain might randomly explode, and the Red Force are constantly on their heels.

My initial design works, but... is far too easy to beat. Basically, if you cautious move the entire way it's a piece of cake and even with a large X Team you're unlikely to run down the clock. Too much of the randomness relied on custom complications table. But with a few additions to raise the stakes, it should be a really entertaining solo or cooperative mission.

My favourite feature is an option to include a Dependent (a feature of Operation Kurgan), who is a rather pathetic ally you have to try to not get killed. I'm currently toying with the idea of adding extra objectives in the form of injured civilians along the way whom the team have to try to pick up and take with them as they move.

Anyway, I'm aiming to have this pulled together by the end of Feb. I'll let you know how it's going.

I really like the chase-type mission from Operation Nemesis. The chase mission from Gemini was OK, but the one from Nemesis felt like a big improvement and was cool
