Horizon Wars: Midnight Lite?
Added 2023-05-11 08:00:02 +0000 UTCI've been asked about producing a "lite" version of the Midnight Dark rules for commercial partners to use to promote their own products - as well as to serve as a PWYW version of the rules for interested customers on Wargame Vault and, maybe, to take to events and shows and suchlike as a promotional tool.
But I'm wondering about what I should include in it and I'd welcome your suggestions.

That's a really good idea. As the units already come with pre-set traits (and no upgrades) I think it would be good to leave the upgrades out entirely, except for heroes (but also leave out hero upgrades).

Solo/co-op with fixed, pre-defined units with limited upgrades will work well for a demo/PWYW copy. You can avoid the complexity of unit building and create something where a solo player can dive in and see if they like the rules. Commercial partners will probably need the unit building rules to create stats for their units.

At shows, I invariably take a coop approach as this allows players to jump in and out at their own discretion without it messing up anyone else's experience.
