See Your Mini in Lights!

I'm ploughing ahead to get Midnight Dark finished and am now talking with artists and others to help add photography and illustrations to the text, and it occurred to me that patrons might enjoy seeing their work in the book if they had the chance.

I'm conscious that this looks a little bit like me outsourcing my job to people who are paying for the privilege, so let me say that *any* patron who submits a suitable photo will get a free pre-release digital edition of the book when it's published regardless of whether or not the photo is used. And any patron whose photo gets used will also receive a free hard copy of the book as soon as it is published.

Only patrons and commercial partners are eligible to submit photography for the book (and commercial partners don't get nuffink in return but the dubious value of "exposure"*).

If you're interested, the parameters for submission (to precinctomega@gmail.com) are below:

Photography needs:

Miniatures photography standards:

Minimum 300dpi, PNG or TIF, Neutral diffuse lighting.

6mm (1/285) scale miniatures depicting combat vehicles of an ultramodern or sci-fi setting, typically:

Miniatures standards:

Fully painted to a medium to high standard (competition standard is not required, but basics such as no visible mould lines, no visible undercoat, no wash clouding; highlighting using drybrush or edge highlighting; unit markers may be decals or hand painted as long as neat and tidy.

All miniatures should be based. All bases should be coherently terrained (so the same colour/type of sand, undergrowth, etc).

Any size or shape of base is fine, although circular is preferred. Simple base markings for unit/element are fine, but nothing game- or IP-specific.

Vehicles should be one vehicle per base. Infantry may 3-4 infantry miniatures per base. Smaller vehicles (such as bikes) make be counted as equivalent to two infantry models for basing purposes.

Context photography:

Miniatures in terrain context - among buildings, wooded terrain, locked in combat etc. These photographs should either use a special background or be taken from an elevated angle so that no table edges, background objects, people, gaming paraphernalia etc are visible.

No Context photography:

Miniatures photographed against a plain background. Background should be white, grey or black with a curve. The miniature should be entirely contained within the background.

Submissions should include the name of the manufacturer/designer and, ideally, a website address or other contact for said manufacturer/designer, as I will try to obtain permission to include your photo before publication if possible. Submissions should also include the name you would prefer to have used for the purposes of giving appropriate credit.

Submissions remain your property and you can continue to use them in any way you see fit but, by submitting, you give me permission to use them in any form to promote the Horizon Wars: Midnight Dark product without further compensation or attribution (subject, also, to appropriate permission from designers/manufacturers).

I reserve the right to edit submissions (crop, trim, adjust colour/light etc) to meet the needs of the books.

*This isn't true. I am working on some very specific promotional products and activities with commercial partners. But there's no money or exchange of goods involved.
