Future Episode Topics
Added 2022-08-15 08:01:01 +0000 UTC*I am still writing games*
But the explosion of interest in my Warmachine MkIV episode means I'm quite focused on replicating that success in the hope of actually monetizing my YT channel (dreams of giving up the HR lifestyle proliferate).
So I've been brainstorming possible topics of interest that I think people might enjoy.
The Lead Belt - Let's take a look at England's so-called "Lead Belt" - the area of Nottingham and Derby where it seems like any miniatures wargaming business needs to be based in order to succeed. We'll look at how it started, why it persists, which companies are in the lead belt and, perhaps most interestingly, which ones aren't and why not.
CMON - Where Good Games Go To Die - A short history of Coolminiornot and its modern iteration, CMON Ltd. We'll look at its catalogue of intellectual properties, including those it owns but is doing nothing with, as well as at its history, the people behind it and its extraordinarily intricate corporate structure (and why it might not be the problem it looks like, but probably is).
GW Law - We'll take a trip through GW's history of legal actions, who was involved, why and what the consequences were for GW and the miniatures wargaming world in general. This will include their recent C&D letter to Cults3d.
Player Dialogue - A more design-focused episode that looks at how players interact through the medium of the rules. And how different forms of player dialogue suit different kinds of game and different kinds of player.
Whatever Happened to the Outrider Kid? - Every wargaming company seems to end up eventually having volunteers doing some of their work for them, from GW's defunct Outriders to Privateer Press's defunct Pressgangers, to Mantic Games's defunct Pathfinders*... Wait. Is there a trend here? What is it like being a community volunteer? Why do companies do it? Why do they stop doing it?
*OK, tbf to Mantic, the Pathfinders are still running. But the programme was stopped for a while and then re-started.

I would love to see/hear them all, but I suspect that the Lead Belt and Player Dialogue would net you the fewest engagements from the wider audience. Maybe relegate those to a less taxing video, like you in your studio?

2022-08-15 13:18:31 +0000 UTCI'm torn. I'd love to hear about the history of the Lead Belt, and about CMON, but some clarity and history of GW's legal fights would be superb. There's a lot of confusion out there about IP law, the Chapterhouse suit, etc.
