News #54 - Why the Jedi are (probably) war criminals

Warning: if you're here for Star Wars content, it's very minimal.  This episode, we look at new releases from

Games Workshop

Corvus Belli

Kromlech

Heresy Miniatures, and

Anvil Industry

It's a sci-fi focus, in which I talk about the issues of equipping ultramodern, near future and sci-fi characters with melee weapons, like swords and axes and, yes, lightsabers. The issues are practical, mechanical and ethical.  I reflect upon how this feeds back to my own design work and on the forthcoming Kickstarter campaign.

I'm sorry about how long this video has taken to release. You'll see that it's a lot shorter and scripted. You'll also mostly notice the cuts. I ended up having to shoot it over several days in short bursts to fit in between other commitments.

I'm going to be trying to do this more over the next week or so and then schedule a number of videos to release over the rest of July until I'm back in August and focused full time on Precinct Omega for at least a month. Obviously the Kickstarter may eat up an amount of my time, but I hope to be able to share some developmental work on Midnight Dark and Operation Kurgan over those weeks with patrons.

If you follow my Instagram you may also have noticed an uptick in activity there, as I finally start to make meaningful progress on my immense painting bachklog. I generally don't post minis here, although they do appear on the Discord now and then, as I assume that folks here are either interested in the business side of Precinct Omega or on the game development side or both. But if you'd be interested in a post about any of the minis and models I've been working on, why I'm working on them and what my thoughts are about the minis, the techniques I'm experimenting with or how I plan to use them, then do please shout out.

Speaking of minis, a whole bunch of stuff in my queue has been painted for some very patient patrons and customers. I haven't forgotten you or your minis (some affected patrons have actually left the Patreon, but they'll still get their minis). These will be a top priority in August both to finish and to ship.

Finishing stuff isn't my strong point, and shipping, for some reason, invokes a particular level of anxiety in me that I can't rightly explain. But this is a good exercise for me to improve those skills.
