Design #24 - Warsurge
Added 2021-10-30 15:08:58 +0000 UTCI've mentioned Warsurge a little on social media, and I thought it was, perhaps, time to bring it more to the fore. So I was pleased when Nick and Rich, two out of its three creators, agreed to come on the podcast and talk about the game.
Warsurge is a new miniatures wargame from Australia. They call it "universal", I call it "miniatures agnostic". But regardless, they've got a unique and interesting approach to design and market access that's worth hearing about. And it might even be a pretty good game. You can find out more here:
For Patrons:
It was incredibly interesting to talk to Nick and Rich at this moment. It happened to coincide with several other important thoughts I've been having and with which I've been struggling - not related to my game development but with the bigger picture of a consumerist culture, its impact on the environment and the extent to which our hobby is the very epitome of the current collision between what we - selfish, self-absorbed humans that we are - want and what we - as a species with a planet on the brink of disaster - need.
I don't go into this in the interview, although I touch upon it briefly, but I'll be recording something at some point in the next couple of weeks that will address the issue as I see it in more detail.
