Infinite Dark Supplements

If you've been paying attention, you'll know that each of my core Horizon Wars games is due to have three supplements, tied together by a shared narrative.

In Zero Dark, the narrative is the exploration of the mystery of Earth, Ammit and the Skylords' plans. Each supplement picks up the baton from the previous one and passes it to a new faction. So Nemesis told the first part of the story from the perspective of the Venusians. Kurgan will tell the next part from the Martian perspective. The third (as-yet-unnamed) supplement will tell the last part of the story from the perspective of the Terrans - who are less a faction than they are a loose coalition of squabbling interests whose only common factor is a desire to see the colonial forces sent back where they came from.

Infinite Dark will be slightly different in its approach.

Each supplement, rather than looking at a faction, will focus on a command level. And each supplement will tell the same story but seen from the perspective of that command level, with each re-telling of the narrative disclosing new details and twists upon what has come before.

As such, the first ID supplement will focus on CL3 - the strategic level. This will tell the "big hand, small map" story of politics and manoeuvre around who gets to control access to a major asset that could reverse the collapse of human space-faring civilization.

The next volume - CL2 - will look at the secret war of smugglers and criminals going on under the noses of the strategic thinkers to establish black market access to the same asset regardless of who notionally controls it at the end of the story.

Finally, the CL1 supplement will travel inwards to the asset itself and really put the limits of what small fighters can do to the test. There will be revelations and discoveries that might even answer some of the questions left unanswered at the end of the ZD supplements...

My publishing schedule for these is intentionally vague, but I broadly hope to release one supplement per year from 2022. I will post previews of new rules and missions for patrons at Heavy Elite level and above... well, when I've written them!

A key part of the major supplements will be additional artwork, just as I've done for Nemesis and will do for Kurgan. Raising the money to pay for this art, meanwhile... is challenging and is increasingly going to be the primary purpose of this Patreon. Income from sales keep the lights on and the children fed, but the cupboard for high quality new artwork is pretty bare and I would love to get Mike Doscher (principle interior artist for Infinite Dark) working on some exclusive pieces for the new books, as well as to have David Sondered continue to provide the spectacular cover art we've had so far.

Oh, and one other thing I thought you might like to know: just as the major supplements for Zero Dark are "operations manuals", so the major supplements for Infinite Dark will be "log books".  So, for example, the first one might be Infinite Dark: Logbook Godhammer (it won't be - Godhammer was wrecked at the end of the Infinite Dark rulebook and won't be coming back any time soon). Thus, the accompanying fiction will include logbook extracts from the "lead" vessel involved in the narrative.
