Infinite Dark - I'm done!

Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

The manuscript is off to the proof-reader for final checks, but otherwise the book is done. I'm still waiting for the cover art from David, but the preview sketches look awesome!

Weighing in at 98 pages long, this is the largest publication I've made so far and, I think, the best looking.

I'm very, very pleased with the design outcome. Without doubt, there will be issues and errors and things I need to clarify here and there. But the important thing - as I keep telling myself - is that the design objectives have been met:

A fun, streamlined, accessible spaceship game with minimal need for dropping huge chunks of money. The Horizon Wars mechanics are well implemented with only a little bit of shoe-horning required to retain the MFAD stats. And the combination of pilots, command levels and solo rules are, I think, enough to make the finished package stand out from the crowd.

Now I just have to start thinking about the supplements...

Midnight Dark is the return to original Horizon Wars. ETA, 2023. We'll start exploring early ideas here later this year.

I agree that people could be confused by it. And, obviously, when it comes to marketing and promotion I am very much an amateur, learning as he goes. I decided early on that I was going to try to turn "Horizon Wars" into a property, and - just by way of example - settled on "Zero Dark" as my skirmish game title after a *lot* of brain stormed over many months. Then - goddamnit! - they released Horizon Zero Dawn and I still get people who think the two things are related. Having commited to "Zero Dark", though, I decided to double down and make the *Dark thing part of my schtick. Hence we have the trilogy: Zero Dark, Infinite Dark and Midnight Dark. Finally, I also made a decision early on that I wanted my games to be a positive contribution to diversity in wargaming. And, as it's incredibly hard to illustrate diversity in a kilometre-long hunk of ice-cold metal, I elected to put people on the front cover. I guess I'm saying that I made my bed a long time ago and I've got to lie in it. But, thankfully, Horizon Wars won't be Precinct Omega's only wargames property and I'll be able to develop the conventions around future releases using the learning I've obtained from these ones. At the end of the day, I just have to remind myself that it's not my job to do people's thinking for them.

Yeah, not saying I am correct, nor incorrect. Just my opinion. Even Wargamers might be confused.
