Rule of the Month - Capture
Added 2021-05-01 11:01:01 +0000 UTCA feature of Operation Kurgan will be an increased focus on taking targets alive, representing the fact that the Martian forces are under far more public scrutiny than their Venusian counterparts in Operation Nemesis.
Generally speaking, you can assume that a captured bogey who is removed from the table in the normal rules for exiting the table is going to be worth +1 XP to the hero removing them. But it's more fun to use the rules in missions designed for the purpose. Captured characters in a Versus mission are their own reward, really, and worth bragging rights over your opponent if you manage to pull it off.
NEW ACTION - CAPTURE
A bogey in the down state or an enemy character who is stunned, wounded(3) or wounded(4) can be placed into the captured state by a hero engaged with them. This requires a successful interact (D(16) for bogeys or D(target’s FxM) for an enemy character) test. If the test is failed, the target’s state doesn’t change and the active hero becomes wounded(+1). If it is passed, the bogey loses its down state and becomes captured whilst a character gains the captured state in addition to its wounded state. Any surplus successes may be spent on bonus actions as normal.
NEW STATE - CAPTURED
Captured
Bogeys that are down or heroes in the stunned, wounded(3) or wounded(4) states can be captured.
A captured bogey can be left in place until the end of the mission or dragged by a character. A captured bogey has a chance of escaping, if activated, but doesn’t count as dead or down. If a captured bogey is activated, ignore the primary action and, instead, roll a number of d12s depending on the bogey — 1 for a Grunt, 2 for an Elite or 3 for a Boss. If any of the dice is a 10+, the bogey has escaped and loses its captured state. The bogey immediately performs a secondary action.
A captured bogey that is engaged with a character will escape only if any of the dice is a 12. If a bogey escapes whilst engaged with a character, immediately resolve a CQB between the character and the bogey.
A captured character, if activated, may attempt to escape by making an escape (D(16)) test. If the character is engaged with an enemy character, they must achieve two successes to escape. Otherwise, they escape with a single success and any surplus successes may be spent on bonus actions as normal. A character may attempt to free a captured character with which they are engaged by making an interact (D(13)) test. If the test is successful, remove the captured state from the target character. Any surplus successes may be spent on bonus actions as normal.
If a captured character escapes whilst engaged with an enemy character, immediately resolve a CQB between the two characters.
