Zero Dark Goes Gold!
Added 2021-01-19 09:39:40 +0000 UTCI am thrilled to report that Horizon Wars: Zero Dark has broken through into the Gold Bestsellers list on Wargame Vault!
This is a big deal for me and, although I'd love to credit the quality of the rules and the book (and those things, obviously, play their part) it is really a testament to my belief that a solid marketing plan and business strategy are what a good game needs to win a market presence.
Plus, I have had confirmation from Miniature Wargames that Horizon Wars: Zero Dark will get two (TWO!) feature articles as I've re-written the Training Run sample for them with a view to it being published over two months and with a brand new mission.
Patrons, of course, will get the mission too, once it's published, but, otherwise, the article will be exclusive for Miniature Wargames.
In the past, I wouldn't have expected this to make a huge difference. But the impact on my sales that just a quarter-page advert in the magazine has had (increasing projected overall sales [not just sales of Zero Dark] by up to 350%) means that I am confident that I will see a substantial spike in interest arising from the articles.
However, this doesn't mean that Precinct Omega has "made it". I am currently still using the capital I made with my consulting work last year to shore up my expenditure, making my Patreon income still very, very welcome. Modest as it is, it is the difference between breaking even and running a loss every month. If I hadn't got that consulting work the business would be unable to provide me even the very small income that it currently does.
What this breakthrough and the forthcoming MW articles mean, however, is that I may be able to shelve plans to do more consulting this year, allowing me to focus full-time on game development and publishing.
I still have so much to do!
EDIT - Also, just noticed that Operation Nemesis and Training Run have broken through to be SILVER Best Sellers. There is a stage between Silver and Gold (Electrum), though, so it's not quite as exciting. Still pretty cool, though.
