Infinite Dark Beginnings
Added 2020-03-21 17:01:00 +0000 UTCFollowing the patron vote, I'm starting work on a new game called Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark. This is going to be a spaceship combat game along the same mechanical lines as Horizon Wars.
This is a unique opportunity for me, because I have no idea what the game is going to look like (except that it will involve d12s and, if humanly possible, four stats called M, F, A and D).
So I'll be brainstorming out the game's development from scratch, right before your very eyes. You can expect stupid ideas, dead ends, rewinds, abandonment and many murdered darlings. But I thought it would be good to lay out my thoughts on what the game should achieve, right from the start.
1. The game should be distinctively "Precinct Omega". So it will involve d12s. There will be points-building for elements. It will be miniatures neutral so you can use whatever starship minis you want.
2. It needs to be affordable. This is core to Precinct Omega games. Where a design decision needs to be made, whether it will cost players money is a key question I always ask myself. PO games are accessible, first and foremost.
3. It needs to be distinctly different to other starship games. And there are a bunch of them! At the moment, I have a couple of ideas in mind that I think would make the game truly distinctive, but I'll need to do some research. I've already got Battlefleet Gothic and Full Thrust, and I'm going to try to get my hands on Dropfleet Commander and Firestorm Armada as research. If anyone has an old copy to sell, drop me a PM.
