Chapter 10—The Ecstasy of Hunger
Added 2025-09-14 23:33:40 +0000 UTCThe first bite was a rush.
The flesh I devoured wasn't just sustenance—it was potential. It was the promise of a new me, of something stronger and more resilient.
As I fed, I could feel myself changing, evolving. My tiny larval body was expanding, growing stronger with each bite.
The wolf’s heartbeat wasn’t separated anymore. It was mine. Every twitch of muscle, every scrape of claw—a string in the symphony that I alone conducted. My hive was my body. And my body would never stop growing.
My biomass expanded.
Beneath the skin of the wolf, I could feel new structures forming, tiny, intricate, and woven together from the threads of devoured flesh. I was building a network, a lattice of control, my will woven through the wolf's very being.
I could hear Luna in the back of my head, a whisper that echoed in time with my thoughts.
“Master, I can feel you.”
I didn’t answer.
I couldn’t. The ecstasy filled my being, making it impossible for me to respond.
It felt satisfying. It felt like a drug, a rush. The explosion of pleasure was so overwhelming that I could only let out a silent scream. A silent scream that was the joy of a god. I could sense everything around us—the cold, the dark, the scent of death in the air—and none of it mattered. Not here, in the pulsating, devouring mass of me. I was everywhere and everything. The bones beneath me, the stone around me, the air above me—these were my domain.
I was everything.
The world was mine for the taking.
I would consume knowledge, grow in strength, and become more powerful.
“Master? Master, are you...alright?”
Luna’s words finally pierced the veil.
—I...what was I doing?
With an effort of will, I dragged my mind back into focus.
The hunger was constant now. Not just an itch, not a craving. A necessity.
[Threshold Reached!]
Tier 0 → 1
You have reached the limits of the Larva Form and have initiated your first evolution. Choose an evolutionary path for yourself. This choice will influence future evolution options.
The world shifted around me, not in a physical way, but a perceptual one.
Suddenly, I could see more. Not with my borrowed eyes, but with my essence itself, sensing the world in ways beyond mere vision. It was as if the system were presenting me with a buffet of possibilities, each one a tantalizing morsel of potential, promising to sate the gnawing hunger inside.
However, it was not just the options that astonished me. The presentation's sheer intensity and vividness captured my attention.
There were three paths, each unique in its own way, and yet all resonating with a sense of purpose.
The first path whispered of the abyssal depths, a journey into the cold, crushing darkness of the deepest waters. The second sang a song of flight and freedom, of the endless sky above, promising to carry me far beyond the confines of the dungeon.
And the third? The third was the most primal of all, the embodiment of the hunger that gnawed at me ceaselessly.
The third was a call to devour the world itself.
It promised strength and power unlike any other. To be a being of pure hunger and endless appetite.
I saw myself as a king sitting on a throne made of countless corpses, my insatiable jaws forever gnawing, and feasting on the very fabric of reality. Worlds would crumble before me, their essence consumed to fuel my ravenous ascent to godhood.
The Third Path was not a path—it was my path. My destiny.
It was a call to become a Devourer, to consume, and to become one with everything that ever was or would be. It was an existence of constant, insatiable hunger. To eat and grow, to grow and eat, in an eternal cycle that would see me consume the universe itself.
And yet, there was more than hunger. There was power, too, in this all-consuming drive.
With this power, I would not be prey.
For one breath, I wondered if the abyss or the sky would have been gentler. Then Hunger laughed at me. I laughed back.
I would be the predator, the devourer of worlds, feared and revered, a god unto myself.
And so, with a thought, I chose the Third Path. I embraced the hunger, the devouring, the endless, ravenous drive that would define my existence.
I would become the Devourer, the consumer of worlds.
I was a worm, and the universe was my meal.
[Third Path—King of Predation—Chosen.]
And the world...changed.
My body grew, bones cracking and realigning. The flesh bulged and split, reforming into something new, something monstrous.
I could feel the power surging within me. My very being vibrated with a primal energy, a force that threatened to burst out and consume all that lay in its path.
I needed to escape from Luna before I destroyed her. With a violent wrench, my being burst out of the Direwolf, shedding the body that had carried me this far. I spilled forth into the cold, hard world.
Luna kneeled next to my thrashing mass, watching, her hollow gaze filled with an emotion that transcended language. There was awe there, and terror, and perhaps something else that neither of us could yet comprehend.
—Yes. Even dead, she knows who is master
My senses exploded outward. Every nerve, every fiber of my new body, was alive with a hunger that could not be denied. It was a force, a primal imperative that drove me onward, ever outward.
My skin split into ropes of muscle that writhed like serpents. My new limbs slapped wetly against bone, each one ringed with mouths that tasted the air. My jaw cracked wider, teeth unfolding like a trap of steel and ivory.
Congratulations, Player! You have evolved from your Tier 0 (Larval) stage to Tier 1 (Pupa)!

I was huge now—a writhing mass of tentacles that lashed out, searching, reaching for something to devour.
I would estimate that I was roughly the size of a small car.
I could see my reflection in the pool of blood, and I was...beautiful. My form was an ever-changing tapestry of hungry flesh and teeth.
One of my new limbs lashed out on instinct, wrapping around a ribcage. My suckermouths latched on, and in seconds, the bone softened, dissolved, and slid into me. The taste was intoxicating—chalk and marrow, remade into me. Even stone would not stand long against my hunger.
The cavern wasn’t just my prison anymore. It was the foundation of my First Hive.
A penalty dungeon? It wasn't that for me.
No. It was perfect. Here, in the dark and cold, I could build. I could create.
I would become something they would all fear. I would become something that could never be stopped. And then... I would show the system what a real winner looked like. What true victory looked like.
I would make this entire dungeon into my hive, and then I would leave its depths and feast on everything that crossed my path.
Now, I was empowered to begin.
—Hive Management.
The word sent shivers of excitement through my new body. The skill promised a future of command, of dominion. With this, I could expand; I could grow.
I could rule.
With a silent command, I ordered Luna to rest next to me.
