FASHION QUESTIONS?

We're going to record a special Patreon episode about FASHION on Thursday. Do you have any fashion questions for us or our guest? (Our guest is a former wardrobe supervisor for TV and movies who now runs a boutique and knows all about sourcing and refurbishing vintage clothes!)

Who are the bad boys of fashion?

For the guest host, is there something in film/tv fashion that has been used as a visual shorthand enough that viewers believe it is true, but is not really accurate (for example: something used to indicate a certain time period that was not popular during that time or maybe totally invented)? If that isn't evocative enough, then (question to all) what styles in film/tv fashion annoy you the most?

Nice to hear I'm not the only one! Appreciate your take on athleisure; relieved it's not necessarily an automatic fashion disaster. And, for what it's worth, it always brightens my day to see people walking our bleak winter streets in bright/bold outfits. I haven't seen the Cambridge/Boston-inspired Uniqlo lookbook, but I will definitely now be looking that up! If there's ever a Boston-area EPM meetup maybe it'll have to be at Garment District in Kendall.

Why does women's fashion have so much more variety than men's fashion?

What do you think about the space age fashion of Demobaza?

Hello from a fellow Cambridge/Boston EPM listener! I also struggle navigating how sartorially bold to be in this town. It takes a lot of courage to walk down Massachusetts Avenue in some of my favorite ensembles (like say, a pink wide wale corduroy suit). For what it's worth (and acknowledging this question was not posed to me), I think athleisure can be very chic, especially depending on how you style it. Did you see that the latest Uniqlo lookbook, inspired by the 1965 book Take Ivy and the intersection of athleisure+prep, was shot in Cambridge and Boston? Apparently, athleisure is our municipal heritage!

What's the deal with vanity sizing??

I'm hoping David can tell the legend of the Going Deep button-up shirt + apron.

The red/blue tie and American flag lapel pins have long been the standard for male candidates. The all white dress (nod to the suffragettes) and MAGA hat have recently burst onto the scene. What is next? What would you like to see next?

What are some of the hottest venues/online places to find vintage clothing? Do you still go to thrift stores/estate sales?

Esquandolas

Curious about hot takes on athleisure as a day-to-day "fashion" choice. In other words, wondering how appropriate is it to wear (i.e. how hard are people judging me for wearing) at least one piece of athleisure clothing most of the time? My normal outfit around town and going out with friends/dates to anywhere other than the fanciest restaurants/occasions is some kind of athleisure top (form-fitting Smartwool base layer/pull-over in colder weather or running t-shirt in warmer weather, all with some brighter but not overwhelming colors/patterns), darker jeans or dark grey or beige Prana pants (both slim fit, no cargo pockets), and either a retired racing sneaker or casual shoe with some bright but complementary color. I used to wear suit and tie, or at least business casual, during the week. But, with the advent of remote work, I find myself wearing some variation on the above 99% of the time. I'm early 30s, 5'11", fit, and am also in Boston/Cambridge, which I think we can all agree is not the most fashion-forward metro area. Beginning to wonder if I'm doing myself a disservice by taking what seems like the clothing path of least resistance!

- what’s your recommendation for outfits for people who hate to wear clothes?
