I can't really pick out my favourite song from the album because it's one musical piece in my mind for now but found myself either relating to or empathizing with what she shared about the passing of blood memory through mothers, self image, and finding a way to create art on her terms. The line that sticks out for me is: "I made you God 'cause it was all That I knew how to do But I don't belong to anyone" I think it could have several meanings relating to different themes on the album, but one idea that's stuck in my head is how she made herself God by creating the stage name Lorde when she first started out but she also doesn't want to be worshipped or claimed by anyone other than herself. idk it's just an initial thought and i could be way off from what she means

But then reminding myself that Lorde is a concept album artist I had faith that it'd all make sense when listening to the album as a whole - and WOW WHAT AN ALBUM!! It's a start to finish listening experience for me. It really does feel like she's exorcising her demons from her own past, identity, and experience in the music industry. The journey from Pure Heroine to Virgin is visceral.
