WOW! Another amazing glimpse into this woman's mind. I'm stunned. Enjoy!! 🦋💙
i think you need to check out “Wait For Life” single from her former producer Emile Haynie’s album. it’s a deep cut, not many fans talk about it and i think it’s never even been performed live! but it’s amazing. He’s the person who introduced her to Stevie Nicks btw.

Totally get what you’re saying. It doesn’t necessarily matter to me what her intentions are. That’s not what is important to me while consuming art. I react to how it resonates for me and the mirror it holds up to me. So whether she is being intentional or just putting out a pretty visual literally doesn’t matter to me. But I will say, she is absolutely fascinating as an artist and a human being.

like if u go back and watch her homemade music videos, watch all the random clips that worked so well to sell us a certain vibe, you can find traces of that throughout all her career. Sometimes it's just a pretty visual or a good time for them to shoot; sometimes its way more... that's what makes her so endlessly interesting as an artist.

Perhaps! Or maybe that’s what she’s selling you! 🤷♀️😝

it is so adorable seeing you overthink certain things cause hardcore fans know she's LOWKEY full of shit (endearingly) and does certain things just for the vibe or as an in-the-moment decisison. She's so incredibly raw in the way that she's so upfront about her vibe, her way of thinking, her message, and whatever she wants to sell you.

The talking at the end of “Hope is a dangerous thing” mv is Jack. It was their first song they ever recorded together so it’s cute to hear his response to the song annd her singing right out of her diary. Also that talking part was left on the song for the vinyl versions :)

LOVED your reaction. So, NFR is an album that lives in my heart and mind, but I'd mostly describe it and a distraction instead of escapism as in BTD/Paradise. My take on Lana is that she can be quite sarcastic, mostly because the name of the album itself says a lot.
On the NFR video we can see through her lenses, but also through Norman's which painted this whole ideal of the american lifestyle, often portraying moments of happiness and love - something most of us look for. It's like she was looking for having this ordinary lovely life (as it was made popular by the paintor himself to the gerenal public) and in reality my interpretation is:
"You're just a man, it's just what you do. Your head in your hands as you color me blue" (as if she's talking to this guy she's with or to Norman himself).
-
And on Fuck It I love You she's the one painting, MY TAKE is that she's recreating this ideal of american dream (and we're back with BTD era - looking for freedom and fame and getting caught in the middle of an existential crisis LOL).
-
Venice Bitch is in a loop for most part, it may feel like we're on a road trip with Lana, but for me it is almost like we're stuck in this imagery of a 50s or 60s ideal of fun while the juxtaposition is Lana driving recklessly on a parking lot (which is a very controlled enviroment) tossing food on the officers while L.A. is being attacked.
-
I mentioned 'distraction' because art and specially music can distract us from tough times, like Norman did at his and we do now.
I am most likely reading too much into things, anyways I felt like sharing.

PS: Funny thing you pratically described a song in Blue Banisters while going through your analysis.

"she's taking the glasses off!!!" Oh girl, Tunnel is calling for you so hardly!! I think I'll do a "Tunnel check list" before you get into Tunnel hahaha
Amazing reaction, I love how you really want to understand everything tha's happening, you really pays respect not only for Lana's words, but also for all the visuals and what she's trying to tell us!
As always and if you don't mind, I'm gonna give you some of my thoughts about the videos:
by that time she was with Sean Larkin, a cop from Tulsa, Oklahoma, next to the Arkansas river. We don't love him (we actually hate him), he was the worst and you'll understand it latter. Just gonna say they broke up and got back together a few times. So, I think you're right about messing with the cops and don't really focus con the important things happening around them and about privileges, but it can also be a little mention to her bf.
hapinees - she's skipping good moments with her girls to be talking on the phone with the fck boy (prob the cop), but her girls keep calling her back to the happiness. Is like the 2 version of Lana: the one with her friends, smiling, and the only while talking with him, angry and upset.
doing time - I see it as lana del rey got lizzy grant's back ;)
the greatest - note the name of the boat: wipeout - you can also see her playing pool and wild darts, and singing in a old bar with old stars (as in Video Games). She also explained in some of her unreleased songs she used to be a waitress. At the end of the video, when she look straigh to the camera and smile, you can see it's not a full smile, like forcing it.. is like she's saying "look, I'm smiling, you see, I'm not that sad".
hope - the mug says boy tears xD

Omg, I love all these thoughts. Amazing ramblings. I’m still just fathoming them all. But I think you’re onto something with all of this. Gonna process a bit more and hopefully remember to come back to this message because there is a lot in there!! Hoping this “gold” does stay! lol

it's been awhile since i've watched these NFR mvs, so watching them again with you has made me think of a couple things. (i have no idea if this is right but i'm just wondering in the moment rn) i wonder if NFR/Bartender/Happiness is a Butterfly mv ties into the concept she sings about in This Is What Makes Us Girls? 🤔
The pink flamingos in her sunglasses during NFR tying back to Music to Watch Boys To which also connects to This is What Makes Us Girls is where this all started for me. Then I think Bartender is the first mv she has where her girlfriends are with her and Bambi shows up with them - 'Oh, she starts to cry, mascara runnin' down her little Bambi eyes, "Lana, how I hate those guys"'. They're being somewhat reckless, chased by the cops, laughing, throw food at them 'Runnin' from the cops in our black bikini tops, Screamin', "Get us while we're hot, get us while we're hot"'. But in more present day Lana, her and her girlfriends are sticking together and supporting each other which flips the narrative of 'This is what makes us girls, We all look for heaven and we put love first, Somethin' that we'd die for, it's a curse' showing the growth/transformation in herself. idk
i feel she is tying into a political narrative as well for reasons you mentioned and also maybe the world is blowing up around them, the war on women that continues from the LFL 2017 era, and they're also surrounded by a chain link fence maybe symbolizing women being caged in and trying to find their safe spaces, wrestling with what they are willing to put up with and what they're not but being there for each other to try to find those moments they can laugh and cherish cuz the 'END' sign is very near (meaning what? i have no idea lol)😳🤯
also curious that all 3 songs have a love interest mentioned but this time no love interest is shown in the mvs - it's just her or her and her girlfriends (but the camera could be the 'male gaze' view tying back to MTWBT since she sometimes looks at it like it's a person)
sorry about the ramblings. mind my spirals with Lana and it can take me a long time to process everything she's giving us 🤪😭😂
i'd love to hear your thoughts Val or anyone else's who's here 🤗
such a great reaction and interpretation from you Val!! i always think about songs in knew ways from your thoughts ✨🦋

I totally agree with all of this! lol, I think this is what I was trying to say but sometimes I have a hard time in the moment while processing. But thank you so much for putting this into words!! Like in my head I was saying this. But tbh, I’m not sure what I actually said out loud. Haha

I always saw the section where they are messing with the cops as being a big commentary and statement - the cops are chasing these girls who aren’t really doing anything that serious (aside from leaning out the car window obvs shouldn’t do that lol) and they are all (both cops and girls) completely ignoring/not noticing the fact that there are missiles and bombs and explosions happening in the background - they are not focusing on the real issues that are going on because they are too busy messing around. Eg, so busy with the their own lives that they are not looking at the bigger picture. Again, many different ways it can be interpreted but that’s what I get from it!
