how I make SIMPLE HANDS (no wire supports)

I'm going to preface this by saying these have NO SUPPORTS IN THEM! When I make a pair with reinforced fingers, I'll make another post. These have no reinforcement because I'll be using them to make molds, and they don't need the extra support. On we go!

I take two equal balls of clay, then flatten them into a palm shape- squareish and thicker at the bottom than at the top

I roll out snakes and cut them, making sure one end is rounded. I make them a bit longer than I need, I'll cut them to size in a minute. These are all roughly the same width, with the thumbs being a little thicker.

I add the thumbs to the meatier part of my palm shape

I position the fingers at the correct heights, then cut the bottom part in the shape of the palm at the length I need

I dry fit the fingers by just sticking them on the palm, deciding on my pose.

The order I go in for attaching fingers depends on the pose. I started with the middle two fingers for this hand, using a bit of extra clay to help me make a smooth transition

Repeat repeat repeat.

Adding some meat to the palms- I stare at my own hands for a bit and fill in whatever looks too shallow on the sculpts. I'd typically add some palm lines for details, but I didn't for these so they could be made into "gloves" if I wanted. Not pictured, I also added some more prominent knuckles

I also take OFF some bulk, usually thinning out the back of the hand a bit. Here you can kinda see I shaved off some bulk with an exacto knife.

For wrists, I roll out a snake, flare one end a bit, and smooth it onto the base of the hand. I then cut the wrist to length

And THERES my hands, ready to be baked and then encased in silicone!
