I’m doing the Banff artist residency right now. I spent all this time before I left preparing my Air Canada Gal costume and remaking it with my mom but I don’t feel emotionally connected to the character at this moment.
All I care about are false messiahs, prophecies, ego death, multi-millennium human eugenics breeding programs and sand. Which is funny because I’m in the completely opposite climate. I even started watching Lawrence of Arabia which Frank Herbert the author of Dune was inspired by. It’s an insane movie.
I think I need to let it happen, I’ve never been able to control where my brain explosions lead me. I saw K’naan at the airport when I was flying to Banff which also feels like an important omen.
Also guess what? I haven’t had a migraine all month since I took that medication. I’m wondering if my imagination is excited to be free and wants to sink its claws into something lore heavy. My super computer is finally running at full capacity and it wants to be the Kwisatz Haderach.
I’m also so emotional. Everyone else in my program is too. This residency is has a artist-cult-cruise-ship vibe. We are all trapped together and have mountain mania. Many people have already publicly cried in my program. It’s kind of cool but intense.
Feed me. If you have any other books or movies you think would nourish my obsession with these themes, I’ll eat them up. Obviously I’m planning on reading the entire Dune series.
P.s I’m gonna take some demure/cute/sexy nature pics so wish me luck that I don’t get eaten by a bear.

I still can't believe I saw K'naan...!! Thank you, my migraines have continued to be gone woooo. It's very easy to stay in the moment during the residency, it's so immersive. Thank you! I'm gonna check out the series

2024-08-20 12:53:45 +0000 UTCAlso a bit off theme but kinda not. The raw shark texts by Steven Hall It's about a man with amnesia running from a thought shark that's eating his memory. Traveling through unspaces. The text is very visual. If that makes sense. Like it uses the placement of words and letters to create images. And on top of that there's like extra chapters or parts of the story not contained in the book. Called like un-chaptets or negatives. That I've never looked into but need to. Very cool story. apparently the Canadian version has the last of these negative chapters included in it. So highly suggest finding a physical copy.
