I can sense that there is a little dissatisfaction with the latest chapter of "The Bet". Let's talk about it.
Bluntly, here's where I was at with this chapter. Yes, it seemed clear to me that this encounter was trending toward sex. And, yes, I knew you guys were hungry for that. It was probably time. But I ran into a predicament. I've really tried to give you all a steering hand in this story so far. So it felt really weird to have a pivotal choice, maybe the most important decision that Claire would make in the entire story, and just make that decision myself, when the last thing that you guys asked for was a striptease.
Was that the wrong call? Should I just have assumed that you all would be cool with a chapter that included sex that was double the length? Maybe so.
I've found that this choose your own adventure format is really fun, and over all it has been a successful experiment, but it has been creatively taxing as well. It isn't easy to write a story on the fly when what happens next might be a complete left turn! There have definitely been times when you all surprised me with your choices.
I've also found that a lot of you feel ownership of this story, and so you don't love it when it goes directions that aren't your favorite. This story has gotten the strongest comment reactions by far of all my stories.
Honestly, this story takes up by far the most writing time of any of my projects right now. I know I don't hit every week, but 3-6k words an update is a lot. Trust me when I say that I'm not spinning this project out because it's easy work. I'm doing it because so far, I think it has been a lot of fun! It would be much easier, from a workload perspective, to turn this into a 10k chapter each month normal story.
So let me ask you: How important is the audience choice aspect to you when it comes to this story?
