Character Archetypes: The Bitch
Added 2024-11-19 19:06:24 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
Here are my thoughts on the top rated character archetype: The Bitch!
Examples of Bitches from my stories
Avani Rao - The Wicked Stepdaughter
Blair Beaumont - Dollar Swine
Becky Hex - Sleight of Mind
Kelly North - Sharing is Caring
Who is the Bitch?
Unlike with the Brat, who has certain physical characteristics that define them, the Bitch is defined completely by their actions and role in the plot. Specifically, Bitches are women who behave badly, They are mean and cruel. They treat people unfairly. Bitches are pure evil.
Why does erotica need bitches?
Bitches serve a very important role in story writing for erotica. To put it frankly, some people have tastes that verge on the darker side. They want to see women (or men if they are so inclined) forced to submit, humiliated, and physically dominated. But often harsh themes like that can leave a bad taste in the reader’s mouth. If the writer can show or imply that the woman deserved it somehow, or brought the situation on herself, darker elements feel a lot more palatable.
What is the difference between a Bitch and a Brat?
There is some overlap, and a character can be both, but to me, the brat’s issue is attitude. Brats think they are better than everyone else and treat others with disrespect, but Bitches actually do bad things to the other characters. They aren’t just disrespectful. Incidentally, an older woman who is dominant and acts superior falls under the category “Queen” in my made up system (Think Faria from The Freelancer series).
The Realism Problem:
Weirdly, the entire point of Bitches in erotica is to be unrealistic. Call me optimistic, but in real life, they aren’t many people who treat people badly just because they are evil. Most real people have reasons, whether internal or external, for the harm they do to others. The issue is this: if you give a Bitch too realistic a motivation for the problems they are causing, it starts to detract from the role they serve in the story: a person who deserves what’s coming to them. It’s a fine line to walk. I don’t enjoy flat, unrealistic chartacters, But giving a Bitch too rich an internal life can make them too sympathetic to play their role in the plot.
What do you think?
Like I said, Bitches tend to be a mainstay in erotic that gets a little dark. Do you enjoy this character type? Have any examples of this type of character in stories you enjoy by another author? Let me know!
Possible Fun Project:
I have been playing around with NSFW character chats in some of my free time lately, and having a lot of fun. I consider it a great way to blow off some steam and stretch my creative muscles in a low pressure way that doesn’t require I write for a significant length of time. (Just to be clear: none of my writing has ever been or ever will be AI generated. This is just something I do for fun). The website I use allows users to write and submit their own characters for others to chat and create scenarios with.
I thought it might be an interesting idea to write an ai model of one or more of my characters. I would describe their personality and appearance in detail, and give them lots of sample dialogue from my stories to make them match their speaking style from the stories.
For example: You are a senior student in Riverside High, and Renee Cross has taken an interest in you… It’s up to you to decide what her plan is to corrupt you, or maybe you want to go against the grain of the stories and finally tame the biggest brat of them all.
It would take a little work, but I could probably knock it out in an afternoon or two.
Would people be interested in giving that a try? If not, no worries, I just won’t take the time to make it. I know some people are not big fans of AI content.
Are there any other characters you would like to see get this treatment?
Also, the site I use right now has a small monthly subscription fee, so I would feel a little bad posting a link there that not everyone could use. Does anyone know of a free site that lets you upload chat AIs?

Whilst I do enjoy plenty of stories with this archetype, they are rarely my favourites..To save my ammo in case you do a post on the innocent, I won't fully delve into why I prefer them. By and large, my red lines are my red lines regardless of the character involved so if I'm okay with it in a bitch story I'm okay with an innocent too. With the bitch, the way they react and experience the events generally isn't as preferable to me although I respect that it's a necessary archetype to bring more people along for the ride or even to make an author happier with the journey.
