Sunday Update

Hey y'all! Just dropping in real quick; will have a good long animation preview going up mid-week instead of today; spent awhile figuring out how to get "Night City" (or rather, a good approximation of it) set up in the background without compromising performance. Originally I had shutters coming down over the window that blocked the view, but that felt like the cheap way out. We have an opportunity to place this whole beautiful city background here, so we should take it.

I tried plugging in some assets from Blender Market, but they simply didn't look that great, and getting them up to par would've required compromising performance again, which is something I wasn't willing to do (after instituting the recent improvements, I had the same Blender scene open for two days straight; no crashes and snappy performance, which is SO nice to work with).

I didn't want to use a simple image plane as that lacks depth, but I ended up compromising. Using the Simple Sci-Fi Pro kit, I generated various "layers" of a city and added an increasing level of blur to each one to approximate the camera DOF.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

Also, real talk, before rendering I need to spend some time on the kitchen that comprises the other side of the apartment. It's pretty sparse right now and doesn't have the same "elegance" the living area does. Gotta keep in mind that Meredith is a VERY wealthy woman, and her living space will reflect that. Right now it looks like my kitchen lmao.
