Hey all,
Some of you might know that a few years ago, I modeled the Venator-Class Star Destroyer from Star Wars. Back then, it was just a personal project. But after finishing it, I decided to put it up for download on CGTrader. Since I don’t own the Star Wars IP, I couldn’t sell it, even though I’d have loved to get something in return for the many months I spent working on it.
Originally, I created this for my portfolio to land a job at a VFX company. That’s why I used UDIM textures and didn’t prioritize texture resolution or user-friendliness. It was a heavy model, and I often got messages from people struggling with performance issues or asking how to optimize it. Still, it was quite popular, and there are a lot of animations online, that are using this model. So I always planned on updating it someday.
So, I’ve finally done it—sort of! I’ve updated the textures and removed a lot of polys from the model. The Wireframe is not as beautiful as before, but it helps with the polycount.
Currently it only works in Blender, since I used Blender shader editor to create the Textures.
So if anyone wants to spend some time in baking the textures and make it work in other programs, I’d be happy to then also share this new version and give credits.
Anyway, hope you have fun with this!
