Maligar is famous for other reasons beside the Delicacy. It’s also considered somewhat of a test. Platinums from all around the continent travel to Maligar to test themselves, as many consider it to be the quintessential Challenge Dungeon. It is not an easy Dungeon, and some never manage to complete it.

The citizens don't seem to crazy though and it probably has to do with the fruit. Not sure if the disaster left, was slain (that was the cities sin), or ascended. Honestly if it was possible I would think the tree was maligar and pretended to be a god and thus became one but there's too many plot holes. Do we know what the delicacy is here?
