World of Warcraft, MadSeasonShow, and the Future

Hey all

So I posted a pretty big video today - I'm moving on from WoW. The reasons why you can find in the video itself. It's been an extremely difficult decision for me, one that most of my friends have called me crazy for, but I know in my heart that it's the right choice. From the beginning on Youtube my objective was to combine two hobbies of which I held great passion for: Video editing and World of Warcraft. It's been a perfect match and the last 6 years have been the highlight of my life. Being able to share it with so many people is something I'm very grateful for, and I want nothing more to continue it, but as described in the video due to the direction of the game my interest in World of Warcraft is waning.

What I used to look forward to I was beginning to dread. "Eh it's been a while since I've done a video, I HAVE to make one soon". I want my life to be filled with "Want to's", not "Have to's", and you've seen that reflected in the slowed pace of videos on the channel. I'm averaging about 1 a month at this point because I no longer have that passion to fuel productivity(among things going on in my personal life that I've been struggling with). It's hurting the channel, and it's hurting me personally. I know this news will disappoint many of you, but as stated in the video I follow my heart in all things in life, and this is what my heart is telling me, knowing full well that it means I may not be able to do it as a living anymore, and no one is more heartbroken about that than me.

Typically on Youtube/Twitch, when a channel focuses on one thing and one thing only, anything out of the norm is usually meant with disinterest. I know - it's happened to me with a few other channels I've watched. Even though I told myself I'd stick with them, I just ended up not having an interest in the new stuff they provided. I will be trying my best and will maintain the quality standard that you are used to, but even still at the end of the day I know what I will be making will not be everyone's cup of tea, and that is fine. I appreciate the support you've given me up until this point, regardless.

I want it to be very clear that I know full well what this could mean for the channel. It very would could mean I have to turn Youtube back into a hobby, but I've prepared myself for that if it is indeed the case.

As for specifics, right now it's pretty open ended. Over time I've found that I've preferred making long, documentary-style videos(quality over quantity). The first thing I will be trying will be episode 1 of a new series of this format, and the first episode will be about World of Warcraft as I think it's the most appropriate topic given the circumstances, and I want to send it off right.

It's a full history of the game, and it's impact on the world, the gaming industry, and the people playing it. As of this post, I have over 26 pages written in script form. It will be well over an hour long video that will take a long time to make, but I will keep you updated on its progress.

For episode 2, although nothing is concrete, I was thinking of sharing my experience with Youtube/content creation and some of the darker sides that most people don't see.

I have episodes for my favorite games of all time planned(zelda series, resident evil, final fantasy, etc), and even episodes about Youtubers, Streamers, and other people.

All this is to say, it's very open ended and ambitious, and I'm excited/a bit scared to see how it's all received.

I know this will be goodbye to many of you - I wish you nothing but the best in life and thanks for the support you've given me, it means more than you know.

To those sticking with me, stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for joining me in this next step of the adventure.

Farewell for now, mortals.

Thank you dude it means a lot, and good luck to you as well!

MadSeasonShow

Thank you Stu! I had lots of friends to the same recently - it seems like an avalanche of people moving on has started, whether it be from the failings of the game or from the increased competition from games like FFXIV and New World. I personally think more competition is good! Makes for better games from everyone! I personally am taking a break from the genre though and enjoying the extra free time, I hope you enjoy yours as well! Take care

MadSeasonShow

You left a trail of fantastic content Mad - whatever you dig into, I'm betting it will be monotoneastic :) I was a vanilla to wrath player returning, much because of you and some other easily guessed suspects, and is leaving for pretty much the same reasons you are. When our interests meet again - I'll be back subscribing :) GLHF!

I´m happy that you won´t leave content creation, if you where to make videos about pottery I would probably think thats the bees knees. I think I´m not alone in that we are here for you MadSeason not wow. I´m also finally axing my wow sub as of 15 of aug. time for a new chapter after 15 years. Love// Stu

Thank you Michael!

MadSeasonShow

You'll like one of my upcoming projects. I plan on talking about SWG! Not sure when it'll be, but it's one I want to cover sooner rather than later

MadSeasonShow

Thank YOU Josh!

MadSeasonShow

I'll try my best! I'm pretty confident about this next one

MadSeasonShow

Thanks Yarn, it's been a rough couple months trying to get motivation. I'm back in it full swing now though...really excited!

MadSeasonShow

Thank you Gorothai, it means a lot. Work on the next video is going really well. It's a long one, but I think people will like it!

MadSeasonShow

Anyway, thanks for all the Vids, keep up the great work, and Sorry-not-sorry that you quit. Best wishes and thanks!

Michael Eischer

Your "Memories" series hooked me, especially as a SWG refugee. I've lost track of how many times I've unsubscribed WoW, but as much as I loved WoW Classic, I lost interest in TBC Classic within 2 weeks. It should have been an amazing time, but soooooooo many people in boost gear running dungeons with no idea how to play there character was too much for me. Goofing around in FF14 is okay for now, but feel it won't last.

Michael Eischer

We cannot wait to see what the future holds. Thank you for everything

Josh Ross

I found your channel while I was playing wow, and was watching your videos over and over. Nowadays, I don't play wow, and I still watch your videos like crazy. I feel like you can make any topic interesting and you have a very unique personality and style. Can't wait for your new content. Have a good one!

Skotuson

It's sad, but not surprising. You've been uncharacteristically bitter about WoW and Blizzard in your last few videos (not without reason), so it's best to move on. Looking forward to the new stuff.

Yarn

I quit retail a while back during BFA and I lost interest in Classic as soon as they announced all the paid services that'd hit BC classic. Even when I didn't play, I've always loved watching your videos, and I'm suprised you stuck with it this long. Your content is great and I'll always look forward to what you produce. I'm sorry you're struggling with things in your personal life and I really hope it gets better. I'm glad to see you do what's best for you and I'll always be a fan!

Gorothai

I can't promise you WoW anymore, but I can promise you MadSeasonShow. Combining that with full effort and passion is now my #1 goal for the channel. I don't know if it will be everyone's cup of tea, but I'll try my best. Thank you so much for the support!

MadSeasonShow

I don't blame you! Glad to be moving on!

MadSeasonShow

That means a lot, I'm excited to share my ideas with you all

MadSeasonShow

I look forward to it to! Will keep you posted on my progress, Thx Sarah

MadSeasonShow

Thank you for the support. I agree, it's crazy to see the 180 of the series/company we used to love. If you told me 10 years ago the state that they're in today I would have called you crazy, but here we are. I'm glad to be moving forward though, it's a huge weight off my shoulders

MadSeasonShow

I will try my best, thank you Sam!

MadSeasonShow

Thanks Lee, it means a lot. Switching subjects on Youtube is an uphill battle to say the least, but with people like you on my side I feel like I can't fail. Thank you!

MadSeasonShow

I started playing wow, at beta in 2004(?) and your channel has been a favorite of mine for quite some time, I have said more then once I would watch any video you narrated lol guess it’s time to put my money where my mouth is! Literally, I believe in you and your video editing so much I upped my subscription. To be Honest I’m glad your moving on.. I haven’t played wow in years at this point, but loved watching your channel. Over the last few years I have to admit I didn’t think your heart was in all of your videos, not like it used to be. I’m excited to see what you do next!

Voxed

Yeah, when I quit WoW it felt like I was going to be missing out and I have had many many thoughts about coming back and fed my nostalgia by watching content creators. The recent news from Blizz has finally put the nail in the coffin for me - there isn't a reason for me to back now.

Salvo

I came for the WoW nostalgia, but I'm staying for the cool person I've digitally come to know. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. Actually, I can wait lol. Take all the time you need.

Adam

Thank you friend. I look forward to seeing your future ventures. Farewell for now.

Sarah Thompson

farewell my friend, the end is ̶n̶̶e̶̶a̶̶r̶ here. i started wow in 2005 after i played warcraft III, after warcraft II, damn it, everything started with warcraft orcs & humans, which i really wanted because i liked dune2 so much. i'm 41 years old now and warcraft has been with me for 27 years. I can confirm many of your reasons, which resonate in some of your videos: from vanilla to bfa i never skipped an addon, i raided hardcore, played casual pvp and bfa was my personal coffin nail. i enjoyed legion very much and in this state i will remember world of warcraft. i didn't even start shadowlands anymore. classic was really great again - your channel and your many videos also contributed to that. but blizzard missed the chance to turn classic + into something long lasting (beside the previous progress mechanisms). we are now in the same maelstrom as retail - but i will continue to subscribe to your channel. thank you very much for the many great and entertaining hours. greetings from europe.

This is one to one my reason i stopped compltely about a 2 months ago, the love is just gone. And i do agree, whetever you put out madseason, we eill be there to listen to you monotone voice while playing other games. Keep taking my humble single dollar every month, you more than deserve it to make videos that make you happy. Take care!

Thandwar

Wow is the reason I got into your channel and started contributing here. It’s not the reason I’ve stuck around and still plan to. Do what you love and it will show in the videos that all of us love.

All good things... My passion for WoW, like many, probably peaked with the Wrath of the Lich King. I kept at it all the way through Battle for Azeroth though. Most of the people I spent time with had stopped during WotLK or shortly after. But I was still able to find things to entertain myself even as a casual. Then, a few years back, I came across this YouTube channel managed by someone with a name I absolutely needed to know the origins of – MadSeasonShow. I started listening to his videos and, of course, the first thing I noticed was his voice. Monotone indeed. Yes, you put me to sleep more than once. But your videos stirred nostalgia in me. I loved watching all the ones you had already released and waited impatiently for new ones. Then they announced Classic and you started a Twitch stream during the beta. I looked forward to the e-mail announcing your intent to start streaming like I did your new YouTube uploads. And Classic actually pulled a bunch of the people I had spent time with back in the early days back on. But they have departed again. And I have barely touched Shadowlands or Burning Crusade. I agree with much of what you put in your video as to why you were moving on. I am moving on as well but my reason is a little simpler – I just don’t enjoy it enough anymore. Certainly not enough to keep spending the money. I will continue subscribing here and on your YouTube channel though. Regardless of subject, your videos are enjoyable to watch and I want to support your efforts. Plus, I imagine you might be a valuable source for me on what is going on in the gaming world. So, with that, I will say simply, until you post again, ‘Farewell for now Mortal’.
