Kardashev Scale Levels for civilizations

The Kardashev Scale is like a rating system for civilizations, but instead of stars for a hotel, it's all about how well you can use energy. This idea was proposed in 1964 by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev. He believed that by knowing how much energy a civilization uses, we could understand how advanced it is.


1. Type I Civilization (Planetary)
These civilizations are like super-eco tech enthusiasts. They use all the energy their planet has: solar, wind, ocean, geothermal energy… basically, they use everything they can.

Example: We are almost at this level, but right now, we’re more like a civilization still trying to crawl out of the cave and survive on coal. We’re somewhere around level 0.73 on the extended scale: it’s like almost leveling up, but not quite there yet.


2. Type II Civilization (Stellar)
Now things get magical. These civilizations can literally build their home around a star. They use all the energy of their star. To do this, they build things like Dyson spheres (think of a gigantic solar battery the size of a planetary system).

The energy at this level is orders of magnitude greater than Type I. Well, what else would you do if you want not just to collect energy, but transform your whole star system? You could totally think about colonizing planets and even traveling between them.


3. Type III Civilization (Galactic)
Imagine a civilization that controls an entire galaxy....They harness energy from billions of stars, black holes, and other cosmic sources.

These guys aren’t just living in the galaxy, they control its energy, and they could probably live forever. This civilization could become something like a superintelligence that understands and manages the whole universe



What’s Next?

Some scientists have come up with even cooler levels for ultra-advanced civilizations. Who says the limit is just the galaxy?

4. Type IV Civilization (Universal)
These guys don’t just stick to one galaxy - they use all the energy in the entire Universe.
Heat, microwave radiation, gravitational waves - for them, these are just new energy sources. Who knows what kind of technologies they could have. The energy of the Universe is not the limit.


5. Type V Civilization (Multiversal)
Oh yeah, this is the ultimate level. These civilizations not only use the energy of their Universe, they can travel between universes in a hypothetical multiverse. Imagine, you could create your own universe and use its resources. Somewhere in these realms, there’s probably super tasty cosmic food and entertainment we can’t even dream of.

How Does It Work?

Each new level requires 10 billion times more energy than the previous one. If you want to reach Type III, you’ll have to go through such a process that you’ll need an ocean of energy
