I remember applying for a PhD position on exoplanets and suggesting to the professor to work on the issue of the magnetic field of planets. Because I thought it was a very important characteristic for habitability. Without a magnetic field, our planet would not be able to support life: it protects against cosmic rays, creating a barrier for particles. Not for every particle, but there are not so many high-speed ones to cause harm.
