Also I have to say when you were talking about Metroidvania's I couldn't help but pop the hell off seeing Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in the Wonder Labyrinth because that's a great game but I do need to mention if you're going to cover that game check out the 13 episode OVA from the early 90's. Lodoss War was to D&D 1st edition what Critical Role is for D&D today and is a true gem of a series.

I mean sure the lyrics are lost on you (if they have any substantial meaning at all) but sometimes the music itself and the flow of sound of the lyrics is all you need to appreciate it. I mean heck, at lot of the music I heard as a child was in English way before I understood English. It just sounded good!

I also understand the "depression kicking my a$$" sentiment, as that's what I've been dealing with as of late.
