"Never even connected to anything". Thats the point of the GR right there. Their entire philosophy is to "live" as blank slates, essentially lifeless, desire-less, nonexisting...things. The GR is essentially hardcore nihilism. Though the way they go about is a bit of a contradiction in that them joining together gives them purpose, gives them a reason to continue living and has a structure(albeit without ultimate meaning). This is why the GR resonates with so many people who are struggling mentally and emotionally. Those people see no reason to go on living or are overcome by grief. The GR swoops in and tells them that they had no meaning in the first place and that their feelings are pointless. Its a shell to protect people from having to deal with their troubles. Funnily enough they are right that life has no inherent meaning. But we do give meaning to the things we do, which is precisely what they are doing by having the chapters all around. Their entire existence is a bit of an oxy-moron.
