Far Future Snippets - Red Shirt

It was a quiet Sunday evening when it began. Too quiet. At first, he was enjoying the peace as he climbed floor after floor towards Blaze's apartment, but the ongoing silence finally started to remind him of that Stephen King story. You know the one.

As he turned a corridor on the twelfth floor, he was half afraid a pair of creepy twin girls would suddenly accost him.

Whatever. He reached his friend's apartment. As Blaze dragged out his completely legit and very much legal super-sized glass bong, several large thumps came from the ceiling above.

"Yeah, man, I don't know what's going on up there. S'been weird all day," Blaze said as he inhaled deeply before passing the bong over.

"Whatever." He eloquently replied. And as he inhaled from the proffered instrument, his gaze raised slowly towards the heavens in a muted, drowsy bliss.

From the ceiling, an eyeball peered back at him.

"What the hell did you put in this, man?!" he exclaimed with an accusing look at his grinning friend.

He took the stairs back down to his apartment, as he usually does. God knows, he and his maybe slightly chubby tummy could certainly use the exercise every now and then. On the seventh floor, he caught sight of something in the stairwell corner that had entirely too many heads and legs for his ongoing comfort and decided that the elevator might be a nice change of pace.

He twitched and scratched at his arms in impatience, most certainly not the herald of a good toke, as he waited for the elevator to descend to the floor where he awaited. Finally, it arrived, doors opening with a quiet 'ding'.

Jennifer Lawrence was dancing inside.
