Background Notes: Arthur's Homeland
Added 2024-04-09 19:40:40 +0000 UTC(aka Sir Ector's estates where Arthur & Kay were reared)
From my notes...
In the legend, Sir Ector lived in Caer Gal, above the River Dee (in Ceredigion, also called Caer Allt-Goch), west of Bala (Bala's located in the Snowdon National Park in Gwynedd).
In ancient Welsh sources, Sir Ector was named "Cynyr the Fair-Bearded", an actual, historical lord of Caer Goch in Pembrokeshire (far southwest coast of Dyfed).
Ector's estates are often portrayed as being in London (*lol* No 'London' in 5th Century Britannia here) and a country estate in the "Forest Sauvage"/Savage. (The latter is from the Once & Future King and is popularly used in modern media).
The Dyfed/Pembrokeshire website has a bunch of King Arthur references while Ceredigion has jack squat, guess who gets to be Arthur's homeland?!
Spoiler: It's not Ceredigion
There being a historical Arthur/Arthwyr ap Pedr of Dyfed who's one of the potential inspirations for folklore King Arthur also helps there.
Pembrokeshire also has the link to the summer seas + the ancient Tŷ Canol Woods (which can sub in as the Forest Savage)
