Tutorial 64 - Four Point Perspective

I bet you thought we were done with perspective - surprise!

Four point perspective is the curvilinear (curved lines) version of two point perspective, which is rectilinear (straight lines).

We begin by setting up a normal two point perspective grid, two points, one either side of the centre line. These are the horizontal vanishing points.

The lines perpendicular to the horizon curve converge at two vertically aligned and centred points, one above and one below the horizon line. The curved vertical lines become more curved the further away we go from the centre.

Cubic forms will appear barrel-like  due to the curved nature of four point perspective.

Four point perspective is useful if we are creating a scene that features a mid air POV. Imagine a POV shot of superman hovering outside a skyscraper, halfway up. We need to be able to see the vertical lines reaching up and eventually disappearing, and the same looking down.
