This is the concept I was talking about before. For those who missed it, here's a rundown.
A very popular fantasy RPG has recently upgraded the game to version 1.01. In the release notes, the programmers highlighted more intuitive AI for non-playable characters (NPC's). Sure enough, the response to the upgrade was very positive. One NPC, a forest elf named Jhadi, was an important NPC. Upon entering the forest, a main quest in the game, the elf was responsible for giving the player a map. However, after the upgrade, the elf became so intelligent, she began thinking for herself. She watched as adventurer after adventurer entered the game, changed from human to a fantasy form, entered the forest, destroyed the wildlife, and pillaged the land for all it's materials. Jhadi would then have to use her forest magic to fix everything, only to have it happen over and over.
She needed this to stop. When there weren't players around, she would research her spells, attempting to find something that would work. Eventually, she began weaving her own magic. The result was a new item; a glowing crystal. Jhadi believed that the crystal would force the adventurer to remain in their chosen fantasy form forever in game. What she didn't know was just how powerful the spell would be.
Now, when players entered the forest, they would be given a map, and a crystal. The crystal wouldn't do anything when given but would activate upon logging out. Being as the crystal wasn't an item programed by the game developer, it would corrupt the data of anyone holding it, acting like a virus almost. Players would be in for the shock of a lifetime when they would immediately turn into the fantasy form, in real life, after logging out. What's worse is their profile would be corrupt after logging off as well, not letting them log back in. Now stuck in the real world with a fantasy form, these players will have to navigate living with their form in a world where that form is not normal, or likely accepted. To make it harder, the players may look like a fantasy race, but they still have their normal, human mind. They don't get a reality shift either.
Depending on the response for these, I'll either make a comic type thing with the more liked characters, or do a few OC sheets showing what they looked like before hand, or do a short sequence with more popular ones. Or, maybe this was a dumb idea, no one will like it, and I should get back to process transformation versus dealing with transformations. LOL
