Been watching you and others use flux and solder things for a while. Grandson was here and broke his Xbox control cable input, a 5-pin micro-USB. Run to Walmart got him another one but thought let's see if I can find the part and fix this one. Got some liquid solder past, un-solder the old part, cleaned the holes with solder flux and solder wick. Little flux and a un-steady hand of a 75 year old and it fixed. Cost me 7 dollars but the new controller cost about 40, now we have a spar.

2026-01-17 06:57:52 +0000 UTCFYI the part number given for the angled soldering tip is a Digi-Key number. The Hakko number is T18-BR02. This caused a bit of confusion for me when looking it up on the web.

I have been doing a lot of tube point to point work recently and I was randomly being shocked while taking proper care not to be shocked. After a while it dawned on me that the matt is conductive, it must be by nature of what it does. Working with the higher voltages in tube equipment, if I had good contact with the matt and parts of the project, I would get a tingle or a bit more. Yep the matt is gone and so is the random shocks from tube equipment.
