Can you take a closer picture of where the audio comes in from the bluetooth module?

Alex Shongut

So where would you recommend pulling voltage to build this device off a radio without a power transformer? I have a Philco 12-1262. Kind of a novice at this, but taking every precaution. Its a great hobby and I am enjoying learning. 👍

KPC01

What would you recommend for installing bluetooth in an AA5 that doesn't have a transformer? I've kept probing the board but not found a suitable voltage between 8 and 30v. Now and then I get lucky and find a spot with a suitable voltage but more often than not, I don't.

P L Priestley

Hey Paul, I’m new to the channel. I really enjoy the vids. Can you suggest some manufacturer’s where you purchase your component's.

KPC01

The voltage regulator you presented in video 39 configured as a shunt regulator would make a nice addition to a radio such as this where 1 or more stages might need to be turned off for Bluetooth operation. It would also protect the electrolytic capacitors from excessive over voltage.

Reid Braswell

This looks like a fun little project. Something to do over the Christmas break.

RJMeusbo

Hi Paul, I am very curious how you will add a Bluetooth module to an AA5 or 6. You getting close on that one? Thanks, Scott

James Massey

I wouldn't want to create a file of Paul's layout to send to a vendor, as they're likely to let it end up being available to others, but thanks for the idea.

Paul

You could always learn KiCad

Brian Ortiz

I could be wrong, but to me they look like sockets for old time button batteries.

David Hoppe

Hi Tim, yes, they all have the same name. I just "forget" the device, and pair the new one every time. You can also rename the device on your computer if you like, but it will only come up as the name that you renamed it on that particular computer.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Thanks Paul, You stated you get 5 Blue tooth PCBAs in a package . Do they all have the same pairing address ? Can the pairing address be changed so 2 of them don't interfere . Thanks

Timothy A Holder

Maybe there's somebody of a younger generation that could help out & maybe learn a love of electronics because you brought them a couple projects to help build? Always good to get a younger person interested if you can!

How do you PM Mr. Carlson? I want to request information for the Ultra Probe.

Howard O'Chocke

Can’t wait to listen to the Stones Sticky Fingers album on my 1939 S-19 Hallicrafters Skybuddy. Hmmmm. Maybe listening on a Collins 75s-3 between rag chews.

Donald Kash

My hands shake too, but using technique Paul describes works well.

Tim

The soldering of these boards is done by resting your hand on the bench top holding the soldering iron. This steady's the hand.

Mr Carlson's Lab

i love your inventions but i have minor problem my hands shake to much to do surface mount stuff any point to point wiring diagrams

harold swinyer

Thanks Paul. I've thought about how I might do this, and watched others do it this way and that, but you're the first I've seen, that took everything into consideration. I've enjoyed all your content but seldom comment.. I used to make my own boards back when it was much harder, but I've gotten gunshy with age. I wish there was some way your patrons could buy boards from someplace like PCBWay. Oh well I guess I'll have to man up when we are able to move back into the house next month and use a part of the barn we are living in now to make boards. Merry Christmas (I assume you celebrate as you have mentioned playing the old radios at Christmas parties, if I'm wrong Happy Holidays) and Happy New Year. p.s. I love the car and garage and appliance stuff too. We're much alike, except you are much better and "pickier" at it than I am. Also some day you'll have to give us a background story on YouTube. You made me do a double take when you mentioned you drag raced - it's a fair distance from there to being a genius electronics technician (although not so much for a top fuel crew chief these days I guess).

Paul

Yes, another great, informative video. I have an off topic question if I may. What are those two socket like parts that look like bulb sockets? One is on the terminal strip directly to the right of the Switching PCB. If they are bulb sockets, why are they situated on the bottom of the chassis facing down? Just curious.

James Roberts

Heliax for audio! Can't wait for the audiophool vendors to catch on and start selling $1000 a meter 1/2" heliax for "interconnects".

Chuck Lemken

Brillant, what a great way to finish up the year. Earlier in the year I documented my own adventures in adding a board to a battery-powered transistor radio on your forums and have been looking forward to seeing how you approached the problem and addressed the power supply issues that arise from the AC mains supply. Thank you very much Paul, have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to seeing more great work in the new year.

Neil Horlock

I will pull it out of my audio set up in the future and go through it. Its actively in use.

Mr Carlson's Lab

That is exactly what is done here. The amplitude is still so high from the disconnected IF, the cathode still needs to be lifted beyond switching the input (or one end) of the volume control.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Paul, another faaaaaannntastic video! Would certainly like to hear more about the voltage drop across vacuum tubes vs. solid state devices!

Bill Hanks

Thank you Mr C, looking forward to figuring out how to install all this in my radio. Merry Christmas!

Chris

Thank you!

Alan Wood

Thanks Paul, always enjoy your projects Merry Christmas to you and your family.

radiocruz1 .

Bravo! I love it!

Michael Moran

Cool. I was looking at doing this with some table top radios, but probably not the best choice. We have to start with a radio with good sound. Those battery looking sockets are empty. What were the batteries replaced with? ....I know watch old videos... lol

David Kuhn

Of course, disconnecting the cathode of a valve will reduce the current load on the B+ line.... My thinking is to use the relay to switch inputs to the volume control from radio to BT. That should lose the hiss.

Beaky Twitch

Microswitches. Man have I made a mint replacing them on convertible tops! If only they looked and sounded as robust as yours! Great info on the unregulated power supplies. Have a great holiday and new year! My wish for Christmas is a video on the Amplifier you built with the Tek transformer. I know I've pestered you about it before, but it's just so beautiful. I think you labeled it "Cathedral"

Marshall Lewis

Thanks Paul. Earlier I took a shot at designing this to see how close I could get. I didn't consider the timer so that is a very nice touch. Great install by Paul of course. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

M Carter

Thank you for posting! And Merry Christmas to your family and you!

James Stoffel

Thanks, Paul. All the very best to you and your family for 2025 and enjoy your Christmas. 🎅🤶

Brian Wood

Merry Christmas Mr C

Kenny Fidler

Looks nice Paul, thanks for your efford. All the best for 2025!
