1.5V Battery To 300V Boost Supply With Schematic And PCB Files!

Comments

That would depend on the devices used on the oscillator. Your desired output voltage will determine the number of multiplier stages. The available output current drops in proportion to the voltage increase.

Alice Chapman

We used an in-house designed SMPS on portable desks to provide the 48Vdc phantom supply. Ladder type voltage multipliers are frequently used in older style ionisers. Although many of the cheap Chinese ones use a potted transformer type design.

Alice Chapman

Hi Paul, looks like a handy circuit. I'll be waiting for your B+ version as I am building a "Paraset" and would like to keep away from bulky transformers for HT (even though I have them for the project). It would then be a bit of old and new and a quirky one to show off :) Keep up the great work as I always look out for your videos, they're like required reading! Take care.

David Challis

This circuit reminds me of what is used to provide polarizing voltage for condenser microphones

ColdHotPlumbs

I may have missed it but what are the voltage ratings for the caps?

ColdHotPlumbs

TDR Please! Thank you for all you share.

Lawrence Marvin

I would love to see the TDR

Rich Johnson

It is a very useful circuit. I wonder if it is possible to add a suitable voltage divider and an error amplifier to control the oscillatory section. I'll definitely try.

quantum love

I would like to see you build this .It helps to see your thought process that goes into a project like this..I like that you think of useful and helpful circuits and know how to bring them to life. A skill and also an art .And im learning while enjoying you create. I build battery packs and electric bikes .So i have a use for a voltage booster like this .Can a voltage input of as high as 60 volts be used?

Bill Haub

Vacuum tube and solid state transceiver alignments would also be awesome! Especially on how to align the transmitter half. From what I understand it requires more equipment than the receiver does and I've never seen a channelized or VFO type transmitter aligned before. I think it would be very educational to see how it is done. I hope to get into radio repair and alignments some day, and that would be very instructive and helpful. AI7YD

For those of use who like to restore and use battery operated tube type receivers ZTO 500, and 600's. it would be very nice to have a 12 VDC to 90 VDC battery supply. They have 12 VDC to 30 VDC but I have not seen anything larger. They would only have to be a 30 milliamp supply

Kenneth Crips

Sorry, I've only been licensed for a couple of months and haven't acquired anything more than a ht so far. So I haven't tried RG8X or anything else yet. 73's and best of luck on solving that loss problem. =) AI7YD

Chip

TDR would be VERY useful.

Steve Kean

How's that RG8X? Ran a 100' with a lightening arrester at 60' from a 9:1 balun 84' end fed. Lost 10dB. Gonna reposition the balan 60' closer and try again. KJ5GUN

When I bumped up to General class, I also upgraded my Rig Expert AA55 and got a 650 w/ blue tooth, both have the TDR built in. But I am very interested in the clean pwr. supply. I started a vacuum tube audio preamp a few years ago and have struggled with P/S noise. I have done a dozen or more iterations and changes, countless hours of experimenting. The only thing that has worked was my bench supply Which is your Vacuum tube regulated supply from several years ago with the OA2. Thank you for years of fascinating entertainment and learning! Again please do more vacuum tube circuits and projects.

don calloway

I am very interested in the tdr now that I've gotten into ham radio. It will help allot with any possible coax issues in the future. AI7YD

Chip

Yes I do know that and I did so its a matter of time and Paul should send me them! :) Thank You again! 73's

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

Yea I don't know why but I had to! Anyway, thank you very much for your help! 73's :)

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

Well I'm glad you did by searching for the name. I never had to search for the Creators name on any of my devices since his name was already there in the first place and I assumed you would have had the same but hey....you've managed it in the end and that's all it matters. ;) And it should be a matter of time until you'll receive them to your e-mail. Some patience is required though, as MCL receives many requests of the same kind. Good luck with your project build.

Ovi4

I think I might of figured it out and I'm just waiting to hear from Paul if I did it correct. Under direct messages it has a box that says search or start new conversation and I typed Mr. Carlson's Lab in the box and hit enter and then he popped up and I was able to message him and hit the white arrow in the blue circle. I hope that was correct and I will see!

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

No, all have is "Snipping Tool" on my computer. Anyway when I click on the direct message below it it doesn't give me a creators name at all just says is search or start new conversation... this is getting frustrating! :(

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

PM stands for "Personal Message" meaning you're going to be messaging directly to MCL (the Creator). Now, on how to do it: If you scroll up on this page (all the way to the top of the page on the right side corner), there is a box called "Message". Once you click on that, you'll be taken to the messaging page where you'll have to select the "Direct Messages" tab in order to PM the "Creator". You should see his name right there but in case you do not see it, then you'll need to manually search for it (first). So again, while under "Direct Messages" tab you should see a long rectangular box marked as: "Search or start new conversation" and you'll need to type in "Mr. Carlson's Lab" inside that field/box and hit enter and then his name should pop up, then click on the name to start your message and after that click on send button (a circle with an arrow inside). That's it. Make sure you include your "Patreon Registered" E-mail address along side the video number you would like the attachments for. I hope it helps. Good luck!

Ovi4

Not on this page but you can show a link to a picture if you're using any picture hosting service such as IMGUR or https://postimages.org/ where you won't even need an account to do it. Just do not (accidentally) reveal any sensitive personal info. I hope it helps.

Ovi4

What is PM and how do i use it?

Mark A Gordon

Can I send a screenshot on here of what I see ? I don't know if I can on here

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

When I click on messages it doesn't give me any creators name

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

After writing your message content instead of heating Enter key on your keyboard to the right of where you wrote the message, should be a blue colored circle with a white arrow inside . Click on it to send your message. The assumption is that you're on a PC but on a smart phone app is exactly the same thing just the circle is black instead.

Ovi4

Anybody else having this problem also ?

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

Thanks I'll try those suggestions

Edward Przychodzki

I'm having problems with my messages going through to his PM. I can type my message but no way of sending it. I hit enter on my keyboard when I'm done but it doesn't send...hmmmmm

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

I would like to learn more about the TDR head also!

Bob Sheldon Sr - KC9ITB

Same. I've taught myself KiCad and have been adapting SMD circuits to Through Hole construction. Miniaturization when it is not needed doesn't make sense. Love getting the little PCBs back from PCBWay.

RJ Dial

I'm loving these projects but I'm building them on perfboard or 'dead bug' with full-sized components. I've given surface mount a go but I don't have the dexterity or the eyesight any longer to do it properly. I have much more fun when I work with components I can see and handle!

Alan Drury

Try changing the OS platform you're on. Try PC with Windows OS or Mac OS on your Mac (if you own one) , then try Android or IOS on your phone or even a tablet (if you have one) etc. Also try changing the web browser if you're using a PC. Try various ones and compare the outcome: Chrome, IE , Opera, Firefox etc. Make sure that on your browser you do not have any pop-up/add blockers or/and tracker blockers. On Patreon site you need to allow those . This could be the very reason you run into problems such as the one you have. And whatever browser or device you try things on, make sure you log in (to your Patreon) account first!

Ovi4

I agree about becoming very addictiving making the Printed circuit boards (PCB) that I have made boards up for many of my next projects. My only mistake was not labeling for what the project they were to become.🙃

Larry { N7LUF }

Hi My problem is if I press Message I get "Pop up window blocked"If I press Community Direct message I get "No creator found"I've been a Patron member for many years Thanks.

Edward Przychodzki

No, not in this case.

Mr Carlson's Lab

It should only be used at the end of the multiplier

Mr Carlson's Lab

Your ultra-probe was responsible for accurately troubleshooting 3 different repairs this week. One while the owner of a 1942 Zenith radio was standing right behind me. He had tried to fix it for over a month. Found the bad amp after the detector in about half a minute. Found the open plate resistor shortly after that. LOVE that tool!

Leonard Peters

This is so cool, Thank you very much for making this available. Leaning about electronics is so exciting.

Daniel King

I'm interested in learning more about the TDR head!

Ovi4

Where do I PM you for The PCB and component files?

Richard Seaby

Are there any shortcomings in using THD parts instead of SMD's?

Senin

Thanks Mr. C. Question, Can the voltages be tapped and used between stages?

James Roberts

Very interesting! Might try one with Nixies.
