here in good old blighty(UK), i get 240 even at peak times and i can just use my very cheap chineseum variac that i got for £45.00 new on eBay, that takes me up to 270 at 5 amps, ebay also has a lot of ex military Parmeko high quality multi tap transformers at very reasonable prices, , i scored my self a 4 amp 240 pri/2 x 117 sec step down transformer for the couple of US voltage test gear items i have(a knight KG-620 VTVM and my Heathkit T-3 signal tracer) i am eagerly awaiting your microwave transformer video though, so i can wind some secondaries and rectify to DC to run an old Red Star 3 valve radio from 1930 i have using PM1LF tubes
