The classic & iconic Star Trek "red alert" from the original 1960s TV show is literally a DC motor winding up amplified through an audio amplifier. We actually made that effect from a Radio Shack 360 In One Electronics Lab and a couple added parts, like an extra motor, a flip flop and a 555 chip. That was a very long time ago! Second grade to be precise. 40 years ago!
