I am trying to get a transformer rewound for an old Sorensen Nobatron 0- +600 volt DC @ 500mA B+, 0- -120 volt DC @5mA bias, and 6.3 volt AC @ 15 amps. It goes where the Lambda doesn't go. I had a $3200 TDK solid state Lambda 650 volt that took the final dump. The $400 for a custom transformer for the Sorensen is a cheaper fix. You can stack those kit supplies in parallel to get more current capability, just put diodes in between the supplies. The plate transformer in the Nobatorn is 980-0-980 or 1960 volts center tapped, so pretty spooky. The main T-1 power transformers blow out easily and frequently. I also have a Fluke 555. I have a big a** Gates unregulated supply, and some of the Heathkits and Eicos. That Lambda has an Amperite 115-30 or 115-60 delay relay that plugs into a tube socket. The Lambda uses 6 or so 6W6GT tubes (a lower powered version of a 6V6 that is a step down from the 6K6), a 6BL6 sweep tube, maybe a twin triode or two and some gas regulator tubes. That buzz is unobtrusive. My Nobatron weighs 85 pounds, and puts out 600 volts @ 500 mA. These Lambda & Sorensen PSUs regulate to within +/- .5 volts and maybe 20mV of ripple, an output impedance of less than 2 Ohms, the Bias is regulated to <0.25 volts. The 6BL6 sweep tube is very very common in these lab grade regulated tube supplies. The pass tubes could be 6W6s or 6V6s all the way up to 6550As, 7027A or 8417s. I have a Japanese reg tube PSU with the Japanese version of 8417s in it. You can regulate the voltage AND the current with it too! It tops out at 385 VDC @ 0-100mA, but no heater or bias supply.
