Good day Mr Carlson! I just signed up, having an old school father and someone who was an aviation tech most of his life exposed me to heaps of different equipment, VOR's, DME's, Radars, all manner of HF radios etc. but, he was a genius and so talking to him trying to figure this out, usually led to him becoming VERY frustrated at me who was not able to grasp something as quickly as he'd've liked me to..... What's to be expected from a 16 year old with the attention span of a fly....... Many years on, I'm in a country with a 16:1 ratio to the USD, on other words everything is blooming expensive and that is before import that usually doubles the the price anyway. So buying a lab bench PSU out here is not an option, but designing something gives me a learning curve and some much needed exposure as to why PSU's are designed the way they are. I've been on the lab bench PSU journey now for quite a few months, probably 11 by now. I am busy working on a bench top PSU that I would like to make for myself and the base is an LM324N quad ic. That being said..... What a miraculous pain in my behind it is, I am learning a lot, but, also finding designs that offer so many different options, along with their own challenges. I am using PNP's for my pass stage as I've found that I have less of a voltage drop across a set of PNP's compared to NPN's. eg. I am using a set of 2SB1560's as opposed to TIP142, across the TIP142 I lose 2,5V and across the 2SB1560's I lose 0.7V. Can Anyone explain this please? It would be much appreciated..
