#5 Super Electronics Troubleshooter- Repairing Hybrid "Mixed Technology" Electronics And More.

In this video, learn about mixed technology electronics (vacuum tube and solid state) working together. Here I show you some traps that catch many techs. Learn how to safely probe around in these types of amplifiers without destroying them. Oscilloscope safety tips, and how to follow the audio signal through the op-amp stages, to determine whether an op-amp is defective.

Hi All, I've watched this and the previous video and have a question regarding dummy loads, it may even be worth a video(?) :) 1. It seems like it's ok to have no load when the main volume is very low and input signal is also low, does this hold for any type of amp, that is for tube/mixed/solid state? 2. Can I build a dummy load of say 100 watts and use it for simple signal tracing/fault finding of much larger amps of say over 1000 watts but with a low output/attenuation setting (I plan on repairing a few larger PA power amps and active speakers, they're all big wattage nowadays)? 3. What is the advantage of running a matching (or better) dummy load, is it just to test for clipping and the like or is it a good thing to have for say biasing and general inspection? 4. Is there certain types of resistors that should be used or some that just shouldn't be used for this purpose? I was planning on buying a couple of those shell resistors at 1000 watts or building one of the 'water heater' type setups which are very large but if I can get by with something smaller for diagnosing faults that would get me 80% of the way to getting things repaired. Cheers, Mick

Thank you Mr. Paul for another Great Info.
