GN HQ Building Progress

Hey everyone,

It's been about one year of my life now since I started seriously looking at our new space. The structure existed, but the renovation required was immense due to decades of age and little upkeep. I like that as a project, though, because it fits our style and it means we could make something new again with minimal impact on land elsewhere.

I can't give all the specific details, but it's been the majority of this year (so far) that we've been working on plans, engineering drawings, architecture, and everything else. The renovation project was a huge undertaking and was my first project of its kind. This has required decision making at as high a level as speaking with local policymakers and as low a level as choosing toilet paper holders and door knobs. It's almost done.

We're sharing some photos we recently took with you all first. We'll probably film something with some of this in it soon for the main channel, but wanted to give you all a look.

The room with the concrete floor is going to be our primary test lab. That one will have very large equipment in it, like the fan tester, and will be for our forward-looking testing advancements. It'll be a test lab. The fan tester is almost here, by the way. They're still cleaning and grinding that concrete slab to re-pour it and finish it with something better, but it's getting there.

We haven't ever shown the entire building, but we will over time. There's more to it. In these photos though, you can see the film studio (painted dark gray -- this is a lighting decision and what we use now), a small office with new LVT flooring (that's all fake wood -- it's luxury vinyl tile), some carpet for the production and testing rooms, different carpet for my office / workspace / living space (for when I stay there), and the break room with a split carpet+LVT flooring and some millwork installed.

Most the big stuff is done. We're working on finishing touches and smaller upfits or preparatory stuff now.

Thanks for all the support. We're excited to get in there and use the space to do cooler stuff. We're too crammed right now.

- Steve

Thank you so much! We are doing our best to set a good example. We don't get it right every time, but we try every time. It is really important for us to have supportive comments like these.

Seeing these pics in contrast to the videos of y'all moving in & what you've managed to prodece since moving in really alters my perspective of the space in a huge way. I somehow imagined you had a floor on some semi-industrial/professional rental building. Knowing what you have done to get it where it is now, & the "motus opperandi" behind it all, really gives me an enterely new perspective on you (Steve), the organization as a whole, & the clearly very strong set of values that Gamers nexus is built upon & thrives within. I was pleased to see someone such as yourself enjoying great success BEFORE joinging the Patreon this morning,.. But in just the short time it's taken to consume a smidge of the content, both written & produced, what respect I had prior has grown exponentially & has unquestionably become wholehearted admiration. It's really hard to verbalize how much I appreciate You, & Gamers Nexus. Even just to know there are still folks at large in the world doing everything they can to have & make positive impacts that will hopefully have lasting effects.

Hey Steve! Any new updates?

It's coming along so nicely! I'm really excited for when GN can really start using this space! Any chances of a really quick video walkthrough update again?

HDL_CinC_Dragon

Looks Huge , think you should get a outside bench/table on the grass outside that glass door so you guys can get some much needed sunlight break , as we know you will be spending long hours in the studio πŸ‘πŸ‘

in two years: GN becomes GN Labs.

awesome, looks great GN

Leviathanprym

Looks great Steve! Can't wait to see videos filmed in the new location.

Mr. Purple

Daamn. Looking beautiful.

Murderhobo

You have come a long way. I hope you wont out grow this new space as quickly as you did with the current set up. Im especially interested in fan testing and the methodology you arrive at. Getting a good seal on an airflow chamber takes a bit of practice and alot of masking tape (at least with the tube models). I also hope you get into your TTV testing equipment at some point. You mentioned it a while ago and its made a few b-roll appearances but its never been a feature on any of your videos. Im stoked for you guys! Keep it up!

This is gonna be epic. Can't wait the move!

looks so nice!

It's changed so much. Looks good man. Congratulations.

Excellent work guys! Can't believe you are still able to pump out so much content while also managing your renovations. Make sure you crack a beer open when you're done, you've earned it.

Richard O'Connor

I mean... there's always the Dyson

David Rose

We have pretty advanced security but obviously can't talk about it. Rest assured that we're taking care of it!

GamersNexus

Looks great! For the move, pleeeasseee feel free to take your time/time off from the regular posting schedule. It's bad enough you need to pull these massive shifts for the general releases to "be present" when stuff trends... Quick question: Are blinds (inside) coming for these windows? I can never not think of potential longfingers sneaking around. Linus just posted a "local-AI-card-based presence detection" video, maybe you want to use something like this for automated "if someone KNOWN there (else alarm), blinds up, if last person leaves, blinds down" thingy? Alternatively just a dumb time-based schedule ;) Just so it doesn't bother you on a day to day basis while providing cover against "ooohhhh that looks like a bunch of 3090s <3" at night. Cause, like, daylight is cool (I heard).

n8c

Looking good, guess the blue is coming later?

LVT is pretty darn cool - we have it in a recently remodeled bathroom and it's hard to believe it's vinyl!

Alxa

Looking nice, seems like just yesterday you moved into your current space. Congrats and keep up the good work! We are excited for you.

That chair on the last photo... it's so bad

Looking good. I hope everything works out and you guys keep making awesome content. PS. Try and make Patrick's office smaller. πŸ˜†

Guys, well done! When you'll be moving in there don't forget to film the process ;) Will be an awesome video for the records. The last one when you were moving from Steve's house to present office gave clear view on how much of an upgrade it was.

So happy for everyone! Can't wait to see what you'll do with the space!

NoCleverName

Looking good! Feels much brighter in there with the paint and new finishes. Can't wait to see new content being filmed there.

exciting stuff. I just started the same, albeit on a much smaller scale.

J Keith Walters

Love that you even have a space where you can go out and touch the grass!

Benoit Lelièvre

Nice work! The hype is real!

Moritz Wundke

That's some great progress, especially considering you've still got new content going up. Good to see it all start to come together.

Well done guys! Looks amazing and the quality of the finish looks spot on!

Marc Novak

Can't wait to see next moving vlog in 2 years! ;D

Wow, that's a lot of progress! The new space looks amazing! Good choice with the high-end vinyl. I don't envy whoever has to vacuum all that carpet, though.

Meghan Krajchi

Looking great! Made me curious, though, what part involved local policymakers.

Phil

Looking good!

I absolutely love the dark gray paint job! Whole building is looking excellent and I am happy you guys are making progress!

I have been watching gamers nexus for just over a year, and joined patreon as a result of being totally impressed by what you were doing. With the larger space I can only guess what you will accomplish, continued prosperity and growth to you all.

wow looks great GN team. Can't wait for the new content this new space will add to the channel.

Leviathanprym

Love it Steve. Could go on about the space but it looks damn well great and perfectly suited to you guys. You deserve the growth. I personally hold you guys in the highest regard because I know you're viewer-centric, don't take BS and tell it like it is. It's why I support you on Patreon and my dishwasher is full of your cups & mugs with Mod and desk-mats spread out around me. Keep doing what you do.

bitpushr

100%! We're all excited to grow into it and have some space without feeling surrounded by shelves on all sides!

GamersNexus

It's crazy, right? It looked like a post-apocalyptic fallout shelter when we first got it!

GamersNexus

Looking great! What an adventure!

Peter Kazmir

If a poster named "Buzzkiller" says it, you know it's exciting!

GamersNexus

A "political lobby for airflow regulations" soon partnering with Fight to Repair! haha

GamersNexus

OK..... these comments are always weird because you are missing significant part of the picture and story. The phrasing ("should be a much lighter tone") is off-base. To suggest that I haven't thought about my crew every single step of the way is pretty insulting. I have spent more money on each person and building to their happiness than I have personally made in a decade, so they are well taken care of. We know what we're doing. That's a room for filming. It is not occupied very often. It has to be that way for what we do and is a necessity. The crew has it pretty damn good and everyone loves the transition from the neighboring rooms to that one. I understand suggestions, but the phrasing is just not appropriate for having such little information.

GamersNexus

This is exciting!

Wow that is a substantial space. I bet you could start another complimentary line of business. Maybe a political lobby for airflow regulations? A new PSU testing standards body? Geek Squad?

clickallnight

Where is Patrick's office?

Eric Smith

looking nice for a fresh build. However, would comment on the room with the dark grey walls that it should be a much lighter tone. Having worked in buildings like that, they tend to really dampen spirits when in them. (normally I see them in NOC (network operation centers, and other locations). It's like you're always working a night shift (which I've done for a long time as well so can compare). Just something to think about with your crew.

HappyHeuristic

I honestly can't believe this is the same place from the original video. This is so impressive guys. Also, as much as I wish you wouldn't push yourself so hard that you overnight at the studio, I'm glad that you are making a little personal space for yourself.

Gretchen Bonegardener

It's absolutely massive! Should be sustainable for the foreseeable future

Amazing. Can't wait to see more!

Alex V

Wow, it's really coming along! It's looking great.
