Updates & Patreon Reward Tier Cubes Shipping
Added 2020-09-05 05:57:22 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
First off, all the Patreon reward tier cube addresses ($20 tier) were just sent to our distributor, and those will go out next week. We hope they'll ship by Wednesday. You will receive a tracking notification via email. It looks like about 19 are going out, dating back to beginning of August. Second, if you're new and need a Discord link, please follow these instructions: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/212052266-Get-my-Discord-role
I just shot a behind-the-scenes video that's going up shortly (we'll make another post for that -- should be tomorrow). It's about a new piece of equipment that we purchased with a mix of Patreon and GN Store profits. We are also researching thermal chambers, semi-anechoic chamber construction, and other options for future expansion in 2021. That's another story, though.
This week, we'll be busy fully retesting all the GPUs that need comparisons in our upcoming 3000-series reviews. The GPU testing methodology has been completely overhauled with a lot of new games, updated and more accurate power testing, total system latency, and more. It's all-hands on deck right now, and we're loving it. Andrew has been busy building some special GN wallpaper packs that we'll be distributing a number of ways in the future, with one exclusive to Patreon backers. We'll keep you all updated on that, too. He has been working on this for about a month now and has made good progress, and is nearing a point where we can start preparing them to get distributed. On the product side, I've been working on mechanical drawings and specs for something I can't talk about yet -- it'll be a while.
For other videos, we will probably slow down a little bit this coming week, but we're not sure yet. I haven't had a good opportunity to take more than ~2 hours off of work (other than sleep) for the last 4 weeks, so that's almost literally every single waking hour working, and I'd really like to get some biking in. It looks like this week is the best bet, because RTX 30 is going to hit and I won't have any opportunities to walk away once that happens. For that reason, and just to keep sanity, we might skip a couple of publishing days this week as we ramp into RTX 3000 coverage.
Lots going on right now. Currently, I have two test benches running Blender benchmarks for GPUs, which we haven't done officially before. We normally just save these for CPUs. It'll be cool to include as another means of comparison.
We'll keep you posted on everything, as usual.
Thanks for everything you're doing for us! For the first time ever, we feel like we might be able to afford major testing equipment that, generally speaking, only manufacturers have access to. A thermal chamber would revolutionize the way we do testing for coolers, cases, and GPU coolers, and would eliminate literally dozens of hours per month of additional validation testing. We rerun more tests than likely anyone has any idea, and it's mostly because we're validating thermals in an already-controlled-but-sub-optimal environment. A chamber will fix that. They're expensive. We're not exactly sure the cost yet, but Patreon and the GN store are basically funding it. We also need space. That's another problem entirely and one for another time.
Thanks again,
- Steve

2020-09-29 22:46:10 +0000 UTCRest is just as important as work, Steve. I don't think anyone of us would be upset by you taking a minute to yourself. Hope it's good weather for biking!

2020-09-05 21:11:00 +0000 UTCSteve, Takes some Damn time off and Relax! You have all earned a Break for a while! Can't wait to see what you and the Crew have planned for us going Forward!!
2020-09-05 19:41:20 +0000 UTC"Major testing equipment" in your hands feels great. Looking forward to the content you produce with it. Congratulations on the success of your channel!

2020-09-05 13:13:40 +0000 UTCReally interesting post, thanks Steve. With the working hours being so long, is that due to having to fill every day on Youtube or more personal choice? It seems ridiculous that there may be a forced pressure when channels like yourselves, HUB, LTT, Jayz etc in theory should be big enough to self sustain the audience. Hope you're all well though and enjoy your biking, I should take inspiration to get out myself, haven't been riding since the new year.

2020-09-05 10:23:10 +0000 UTCThank you for all your work, and enjoy your time off! :)
2020-09-05 09:35:15 +0000 UTCReally glad to hear you're having fun doing my dream job! I swear I had the idea before you guys 😝 take a day off, get out on the bike. In fact, force the whole team to go for a team bike trip! Company mandated fun is the best fun. Looking forward to the 30 series content! I'll insta-buy a 3080 because it's clearly better than my 2080ti, but I'll still watch all your content to justify it to myself afterwards!
HOkay
2020-09-05 09:20:26 +0000 UTCthe GPU blender tests do sound interesting, esp if there are heavy impacts due to limited memory on lower-tier parts, I look forward to whatever comes from that as I suspect it will be like some telescopes that no one knew what they would find before looking. That AMD bike posted on Twitter also looks like fun content. Enjoy a day or few on the bike trails, it is more than earned. B)

2020-09-05 08:49:49 +0000 UTCHi, Really appreciate the whole teams efforts and the great content you put out. Hope you get time for a break before the 3000 series lands. Definitely deserve a rest before that, can't wait too see those numbers!
2020-09-05 08:14:52 +0000 UTCHere's a funding idea: Commission an artist to create an "Avengers" (or "Last Supper", although I'm not quite sure how well the impending-betryal-and-crucifixion implication of it would work out) type of team portrait including the whole team (Steve, The Cats, The Patricks, Andrew, Keegan, Eric, Mike, John, whoever-else-works at GN now) and then sell a limited quantity (I'm thinking 1337 or so) of numbered and signed posters. I know I'd be willing to pay ~50 € for something unique like that, and I'm sure others would buy it too to help you improve your equipment.
