Fun with UPS Batteries in Power Outage

This was kind of fun.

We have a behind-the-scenes video coming out soon for $5 backers, but I think we will probably publicly post that one after a week or two (on the side channel). It was just sort of fun, hence wanting to share early.

There was a major storm here today that knocked-out our power and showed no signs of early recovery. We have the Lian Li O11 Dynamic review going up tomorrow, but had to film aroll, broll, and edit it today. All of those things require power.

Because we really needed the video done, we pulled our battery backups (some CyberPower units we bought during Black Friday, 1500VA) from the editing room and hauled them into the set room. We plugged in all the lights, using the convention hand light to see, and I was on the clock to get the video shot in under 40 minutes (before batteries were eaten alive by the lights).

We got it done. It was fun to have one room lit with 2000 LEDs, with the rest of the building pitch black and rain pouring down. The video came out well. It's a little oddly lit, but that was because of the case on the desk, not because of the power.

We ended up doing more work on laptops and plugging them into old UPS units that had been retired, but the electricity eventually came back on.

The Lian Li O11 Dynamic review will be up tomorrow, it seems! And we will be working on our behind-the-scenes video for this soon.
