CS Lewis' The Great Divorce. Aside from the spiritual lessons he was trying to get across, it also got me thinking about reality in a new way, and how fragile human beings really are.

Immediately yanked me out of the pop music scene and opened my eyes to classical, jazz, blues, country, folk etc. - because this music rolls all of that together in one. I was flabbergasted, gobsmacked, amazed and astounded. There was nothing else like it on the music scene - except other Yes music - but it had a huge influence on other musicians afterwards, myself included. For anyone opting to give it a listen, a note: the tempo changes in "Sound Chaser" are not a studio trick, they play it like that live.
