Backburner 2 - Hearthstone Dungeon Run
Added 2018-01-07 06:09:25 +0000 UTCFor those who don't play Hearthstone, there is a single player mode called "Dungeon Run"where you start with few cards and as you defeat more bosses you get more health, more powerful cards and special "loot" which give you strong passive effects.
I had this idea of a short comic about a bunch of adventures trying Hearthstone dungeon run. The twist here is instead of you being a mighty hero like Jaina or Thrall the group is made from the lowliest units available in the game like Elven Archer and Righteous Protector.
Hearthstone is a popular IP and the comic would be short so I won't need to stop doing Nerf NOW!! or start a new webpage, however the main issue here is the effort needed to do it.
The comic would need to feature full pages instead of just 3 panels while keeping the 5-days a week schedule, plus I would need to write the whole script beforehand.
Also, fantasy comics have backgrounds, monster, action shots and people with fancy armor. I'd say some pages could easily be 3 times harder than a regular Nerf NOW!! strip.
The risk of doing those comics is after I start I need to go all the way and while Hearthstone and RPG fans may enjoy it some may dislike for whatever reason and if the comic has a bad reception I would still need to finish it while leaking readers for weeks.
Compared with the Team Fortress comic idea this has a higher chance of being made but that's a lot of work for unknown benefits and for this reason it end up on the backburner.

I would like to point out that I've been reading your comic for years despite never having played TF2 :P honestly, the choice of theme (which game) is less important to me than the sense of humour and general fun-ness of the comics. So don't worry that a different theme will frighten off readers. (Admittedly, I enjoyed reading Dota comics back in the days when I played lots of Dota also :D).

2018-01-07 14:35:52 +0000 UTCI don't know your schedule, but maybe script it, and give it in "Sunday full page Comic" format, like the sunday comics in newsprint used to be bigger, better, and often color versions of their weekly fare.
